Piece of the Week — Ocean 7.

Velour that fans out over the curves and keeps a shadow in every fold. Cassette stitching, set by hand, carrying the same quiet rhythm across the whole piece.

Ocean 7 is built on reduction — a few fixed rules, everything else left open. Modular, so the shape follows the room.

Piece of the Week — Cassia.

Named after the cinnamon blossom, and shaped by it: a curved shell, linear pleats running through back and seat, each fold following the line a petal would take.

Bretz describes Cassia as a rendezvous of security on the inside and communication on the outside. That is how it sits. The shell closes behind the shoulders and holds you, while the open front and the swivel base leave you turned towards whoever is speaking.

Chair and armchair at once, made for the evenings that run long. Upholstered by hand in nearly every Bretz cover, on a swivel base in matt black or aluminium silver.

It began as a drawing.

Matilda turns ten, and she has a little sister. Miss Matilda takes the same five-cornered geometry and translates it into one compact, standalone piece — large in feeling, compact in format. Placed free in a room, she works from every side.

The plan is the point. Five corners turn whoever sits down gently towards the others, and the extra-deep seat holds three to four. The high backs close softly around the body: an island for long conversations, stretched-out legs, and that rare feeling of sliding out of the world for a while.

She is shown in Wildflower, a jacquard with a digitally drawn floral that reads like a summer meadow. The back cushions come off and new covers can be ordered — a small capsule wardrobe for living.

Piece of the Week — Cloud 7.
Not a single right angle. That was the brief in 2004, and it is still the reason this sofa looks like nothing else in the room.

Cloud 7 is built as a prism. The facets run away from you, and the eye reads a vanishing point that isn’t there — urban presence on the outside, retro-futurism in the detail. Then you sit down, and the drama goes quiet.

That is the cassette stitching. Every segment is hand-contoured, so the surface follows the body instead of resisting it. You don’t sit on Cloud 7. You sit inside it. Norbert Bretz calls it the most comfortable sofa in the world — after twenty years it is still the piece our customers come back for.

A bed without a single corner.
Rounded volumes, 3D-milled foam, shaped to enclose rather than to frame. Named after the Portuguese word for balloon.

Quiet luxury, in the last room anyone thinks about.

A dental practice in Dubai asked for a waiting room. Not a lobby, not a corridor — a room where people sit still and time passes slowly.

Tharuun takes its form from a river stone. Rounded by centuries of water, not by a season of trends. No seams, no ornament — only surface, line and volume.

On the wall, a QLOCKTWO. It does not count minutes, it writes them out — in words, in twelve languages, made in Germany. In a room where people wait, that changes everything.

Three things most expensive rooms get wrong.

The first is colour. Cushions cannot save a beige room —
if colour is meant to work, it has to sit on the largest
surface in the room. That is the sofa, not the accessories.

The second is sound. Stone and glass reflect it, and most
villas here are built from both. Textiles are acoustics, not
decoration — one large upholstered piece audibly changes
how a room sounds.

The third is restraint. Empty space is not something missing.
It is the frame. Without it, the best piece in the room has
nowhere to work.

Every sofa in these photos is handmade in Gensingen,
Germany, and covered in a fabric you choose yourself —
which is rarer in luxury furniture in Dubai than it should be.
