Never in my day would I have imagined being part of a Q&A panel—let alone one with Sea Shepherd, following a documentary featuring Sir David Attenborough himself. What an absolute honor!

Sir David has been a guiding force in my love for nature, the ocean, and wildlife for as long as I can remember. His work sparked my passion for conservation, and to now have the opportunity to be part of this discussion feels surreal.

If you're free on Mother's Day or looking for something to do, come along to the screening of Ocean with David Attenborough! This documentary is a stunning tribute to our oceans, and I would love to see you there.

A heartfelt thank you to Sea Shepherd for reaching out and inviting me to be part of this panel. I am so grateful and truly humbled by this opportunity.

Diving Adelaide - Garden Island Jetty: Dive Against Debris🐬

As the Divemaster leading the charge, I’m proud to share the incredible effort made during our dive at Garden Island Jetty.

- 9 volunteers participated
1 on land, 2 snorkellers, and 6 divers.
- Duration:1-hour dive
-Water Temperature-21c
- Visibility:1–3 meters
- Weather:Absolutely amazing
- Maximum Depth:3.5 meters

During our one-hour dive, we stumbled upon:
- 6 fishing rods
- 5 pieces of clothing
- 4 knives
- 2 pairs of sunglasses
- 2 glass bottles
- 2 cans
- 2 crab nets
- 2 golf balls
- 1 car tyre
- 1 large hand spear
- 1 v**e
- 1 hat
- 1 shoe
- 1 bucket of soft plastics
- 1 bag of fishing lines
- Plus a handful of miscellaneous items

As Divemaster, I also learned so much about the delicate ecosystems in these waters and the types of pollutants they face. It’s heartening to see how much Garden Island has improved over time, thanks to persistent efforts and the community’s help in removing rubbish when we’re not there. Every piece of debris picked up and disposed of properly truly counts.

The Dolphins are grateful.🐬

A huge thank you to Mum for once again providing her delicious cookies, and to Flinders Underwater Club for coming down and putting on a BBQ for us. We had Leah from Adelaide Uni collect samples of invasive species that have hitched a ride on ships and made these estuaries their home.
Your support keeps us going, both in spirit and energy!

These days wouldn’t be possible without every single one of you who volunteers your time and effort. You are absolute stars, lighting the way in this marine debris adventure. I look forward to seeing you at the next Dive Against Debris and Beach Clean-Up Day.

“A cleaner beach is the first step toward a healthier ocean. Together, we protect not only our shores but the lifelines of waterways, estuaries, and the marine world."

Today, The Big Blue Crew, Flinders Uni Underwater Club, OzFish, and Adelaide Canoe Club joined forces for a Dive Against Debris and Beach Clean-up Day.

We had 27 kind-hearted volunteers, including one doggo! They dedicated their time to leave the Onkaparinga River in a better state than they found it, and they certainly achieved that.

We collected over 60 kg of rubbish, an astonishing amount of soft plastics—the most I’ve ever seen at a cleanup I have organised.

What did we find?

131 butts
106 sinkers
42 hooks
36 Glass bottles
18 Plastic bottles
17 Cans
14 lids
11 Thongs
7 Large full bags of soft plastic
6 Kids plastic toys
5 Shoes
5 Balls
5 Plastic containers
4 Safety cones
3 Hats
3 Golf balls
3 Car parts
2 Buckets of hard plastic
2 Buckets of random items
1 Car Jack
1 Soccer ball
1 Woolworths shopping trolley
1 Measurement tape
1 Unopened can of tuna
1 Bag of clothes
1 Stubby holder
1 Fishing rod
1 Tyre rim
1 Rug
1 Pot
1 Safety sign
1 box bait trap
1 Bucket filled with fast food items (KFC, McDonald's, and Subway were the main culprits)
1 Glass
1 Plate
1 Spray can
1 Bucket of broken items
1 Pillow
1 Pair of swimming goggles

A big thank you to Scubapro for kindly donating clean-up bags, Adopt-a-Spot for your ongoing support of The Big Blue Crew, the Onkaparinga Council for your kind words and support in picking up the rubbish we found, and my mum for making delicious cookies. Thank you to Clean Up Australia for not only donating clean-up gear to us but also for their continuous efforts throughout Australia.

Thank you to Brad from OzFish and his team for joining us on a mission to make the waterways better than we found them. Thank you to Flinders Uni for joining forces to make this event happen and for providing a delicious BBQ for all our volunteers. Thank you to Adelaide Canoe Club for jumping aboard and wanting to help. Thankyou Janine Baker for coming to help, local marine Guru.

When community groups and organizations work together, we can make a bigger impact on the environment. Together, we create ripples of positive change that reach far and wide.

Honestly, thankyou from the bottom of my heart . Everyone who helped today. The waterways and Oceans are so grateful.
