Art install day at our motel project in Bright. What an absolute dream it was to have the brief of 'local artists only'! Choosing the artists to suit our colour drenched units was pure joy, both for us and the makers. art with her award winning acrylics

Tile layout options are endless. These Japanese ceramic tiles, are one of my all time fav materials. Laid in a 'top deck' effect here, bringing the outdoors inside.

Where do the best colour schemes come from? They don’t come from trend forecasts, they come from nature. The soft contrast of sand and circles. The depth of forest greens against sky blues. The way warm a sunset sits quietly inside muted pastels. World Earth Day is a reminder to pause and look more closely at what’s around us.

These combinations work because they’ve evolved to feel right. They hold tension and harmony simultaneously. Next time you’re building a palette, step outside first. Notice the colours, patterns and shapes. Notice what feels right, then bring that back inside and work with it.

No one told me this project would end up being such a stunner, but we knew she was a special one - our Alpine Glow project gracing the pages of Issue 04 of The Design Files Magazine, out now. It shows the power that comes with collaboration by the best of the best - the client, the builder, the designer, the decorator, sustainable building practices and the location. Thanks to all who made this welcoming, warm, relaxing holiday home, one we are so immensely honoured to be a part of.

I have a confession - almost every one of my kitchen designs over the last 5 years has a curved element. It's gotten so regular that when I don't do it, Brady, my main cabinet maker, asks me, 'Are you alright?'... here's some of my favourites. If you want curves in your life, you know who to call.

Never thought I'd be sliding sideways in snow today on the drive to meet a lovely client in Dinner Plain, in April! The power of community to the rescue! I stopped to help someone else and ended up stuck in the middle of the Great Alpine Rd, fishtailing on the Razorback corner. Two minutes later, a past client, one of my plumbers, one of my tilers and two of the boy's from .hotham.electrical pull over to help me out. Nothing like a white out to bring you back to reality. Thanks everyone, you're the best!

Meet our Great Alpine Road Project in Germantown, a green Scandinavian mountain cabin with a mid-century soul. The whole space leans into an organic, textural warmth that feels calm and ordered from the moment you step in. Soft layered greens, stone, warm timber and clean lines keep it feeling pristine and sophisticated. An elevated take on cabin living, perfect for Hera, pictured here, living her best life.

Design evolves until the day we hand over the keys. Once the walls come down, you see the real story. Old wiring, moisture issues and sometimes even termites - which has happened on two of our builds! Or, you realise a detail needs refining because the natural light is better than you thought. Without a contingency budget in place, these moments create stress and push the project off course. Quality can slip, and the experience becomes reactive.

A contingency budget keeps things steady so the home still comes together with intention and ease. At Britt White Studio, we plan for this from the very beginning, so there’s room to handle what the building reveals along the way. Get in touch today.
