Week 7 of Celebrating our SIMNI Members.
Laura Sutton - Engineer
Laura’s career has included many years as an Aviation Engineer Officer in the Royal Australian Air Force, and she continues to consult in the aviation industry. She is passionate about supporting women in science and sharing her expertise. Laura has a particular interest in drones and robotics, including their use in training and learning. She is currently completing a PhD in Project Management. Laura has two teenage boys, and her family enjoys travelling together.
Behrendt – Policy Officer/Marketing Manager/Tutor
Samara is a marketing manager and tutor who also chairs several panels for the National Council of Women Queensland Annual Bursary Program. She is part of one of three mother-daughter member duos in our club. Samara is passionate about youth mental health and recently spoke at an IWD event on invisible disabilities. A talented musician, she also enjoys sewing, knitting, walking and spending time with her dog, Myrtle.
Bennett – Tertiary Student, Youth Advocate and Outreach Coordinator
Tamara is one of our younger members and uses her lived experience to advocate for young people at risk. A graduate of Kairos Community College, she continues to support the college by returning to share her journey as a former KCC student. Tamara was named SIMNI’s 2023 IWD Young Woman of the Year and is passionate about social justice and creating positive change.
Francis – Cochlea Implant Audiologist
Nikita is one of our newer members. She first joined us as an invited guest speaker, sharing insights on advancements in cochlear implants. After attending an audiology conference, she highlighted the importance of women’s perspectives in the design and use of technical tools within the industry. Nikita brings many years of experience, a passion for improving technology, and a strong commitment to mentoring and training others. Originally from India, she now lives in Brisbane and enjoys spending time in nature with her dogs.
April Gaudry – Child Care Educator/Professional Artist
April is one of our newer members and has shown great enthusiasm and initiative. She enjoys sharing her skills and knowledge with others. Recently, one of her remarkable artworks was selected as a finalist in the Brisbane Rotary Art Show, and she also exhibited her work at our SIMNI 2026 IWD event. April is now creating a unique artwork for the 2026 International Gynae Awareness Day activities. She is a mum to a little girl and is passionate about being a positive role model for her.
