My little lady for “Body of Work: Woman”

I loved making this piece, which took me entirely by surprise. I don’t consider myself a hand builder, in fact I quite dislike handbuilding generally, but sculpting this little lady was such a joy. I am looking forward to exploring this style some more in the future.

“On the Edge”
For “Body of Work: Woman”

The vase was wheel thrown and made using Red Earth Clay. The form itself was hand built and made using midfire 33 warm clay. I have largely left the piece raw for some more textural interest. The “seat” underneath the form has been glazed with Ivy. Fired to Cone 6.

I’m taking a bit of a break from making to go on holiday, but when I’m back everything will be full steam ahead for the Body of Work: Women exhibit.

After the delays caused by Cyclone Alfred a few weeks ago, we were very lucky to have secure some new dates in a couple weeks time!

🗓️ 25-30 April
🕚 Event: 7-9pm, 26th April (with light nibbles provided)

This is the first one of my pieces which will be on display during the exhibit, and I’ll share some more photos over the next two weeks (including the final photos of a very exciting collaboration I have been working on)

I can’t believe that is only one week away! Here is a close up of one of my vases coming to the exhibit.

Beth ( ) and I have been working on this exhibition for about a year now. I am so excited to see it coming together and I am so grateful to Beth for inviting me onto this project! We have gotten to meet and bring together so many wonderful artists, and I am so excited to see all of our artworks together.

This has been such a learning curve. In my normal day job I work as a criminologist, I don’t have any formal art training, and now I am co-hosting an exhibit. It feels a little surreal. Over the last 4 years, pottery has continuously been something I have done to help me engage with something creative, work with my hands, and as a meditative/mental health practice. Body of Work: Woman has pushed my creativity and technical skills, I have been working on larger forms again and I have been doing more sculpting work. The best part of pottery is there is always something more you can work on, or something new to try.

Anyway, I am looking forward to sharing my work - and the work of 17 other wonderful artists - with you all!

Thank you to everyone who came out to this weekend! I am so completely overwhelmed by all the wonderful people who came and had a chat with me about my work, pottery and art in general. So many of my pieces found their forever homes over the weekend, which is so very very exciting!

Thank you to , the wonderful toasty team and the volunteers who had done so much work to put on such an incredible day. You guys are my heros!

I don’t currently have any more markets booked in or planned, but I will be getting started on building my stock back up over the next couple months so I can do some more in the second half of this year. I am looking forward to getting back to my wheel and making some new work.

Thank you again for an absolutely unbelievable weekend! Lots of love 💕

Playing with some new clay and glazes for in a couple of weeks! Moonbound is on the 16th of November at EC Venue in the Valley (swipe for details)

These pieces were made with Dark Matter, glazed with blue rutile and arctic blue, and fired to cone 6. I have a few more pieces with this combo getting dropped off for their glaze fire today.

What other glazes do you think I should try with this lovely dark clay?
