Somehow or another the weekend before last, when I was competing in a major burlesque competition I managed to make this piece, The Red Lipped Bat Fish for the members exhibition, Subscribed.

In my brain I liken slightly weird and diverse animals to disabled people. Weird, dangerous or otherwise not liked animals are often not the ones that humans think of protecting or looking after. yet they all have their place in the larger diversity of the world and play important roles. Much like disabled people. Non disabled people don't think of us, they don't include us, they underestimate us all the time. yet we are a part of the diversity which makes up humanity.

you can see my Batfish at Craft and Design until the 24th of October Wednesday to Saturday 12 to 4pm.
