Back at the wheel today.

The first thing on the making list are my mostly stacking cups.

Back in the 70’s my mum drank her Nescafé instant in a mass produced stacking cup.
These are a nod to those cups.

Fortunately we moved on. And being individually thrown by me, I’m calling them ‘mostly’ stacking. Mostly they do. And always they are great for coffee. Even instant. Maybe.

These will be for a shop update sometime soon.

Kiln unpacking is one of my fave parts of ceramics.

This one was lots of cups and bowls of all sizes. Most were for the and some for a special order. I’ve got a few aside for an online shop update after my next firing, which will be mostly for online. I’m aiming for early June.

I’m still making for that so if there is something you think I should be making more of let me know. Of course there will be cups and vases. Always.

Getting ready for a firing soon with lots of new work after being away on the art residency.

It was a mark making on raw pots day today. Lots of wiggly lines.

After two weeks at the delving into their collection I am off to Namadgi NP with and for three whole weeks as part of the annual art residency.

I’ll be exploring sound as mark while I’m there. There will be some clay collecting and even some making. It’s an immense privilege to be chosen for this residency.

We are having an open day on Saturday March 28th with workshops and talks. Check my stories to book your spot.

This all means I’ll be away from here for three weeks, in a land of no internet, bush and wildlife. And lots of art. Final packing and prep is underway.

Do you know whose artwork can’t get out of my head right now?

Actually there are a couple and they are surprisingly different. landscape paintings from the desert, with their abstract forms and intense colours have been something I’ve loved for years. That landscape gets under your skin. I listened to a podcast with her on .wank this week that’s put her back in the front of my mind.

And the other one I’ve been thinking about is with her architectural references and exploration of dualities.

I think in small ways these influences do permeate into the work we make as a sensitivity to what we notice and look out for, more so than a literal influence.

Any artist in your head?

Where do your ideas spark from?

Walking and observing introduces me to the textures and colours of the landscape. I want to capture that beautiful rugged and gentle character of the bush and the city. The places where they meet are so rich with contrasts, edges and softness.

These are from recent travels in Adelong up in the mountains, and my fave Broken Hill. Lots of delicious textures, shapes and colour to work with there.

Exciting news for me and all the other finalists. Congratulations!! Thank you

This is extra special because the very first time I ever had my work in an exhibition was at Noosa Gallery over 20 years ago. And my Dad lives locally so will actually get to see my work on show. So much to celebrate.
