On Wednesday we were out in Arana Hills for another old film removal and re-tint for Raelene.
At first, I thought we got lucky. The first piece peeled straight off and I thought, beauty… this is going to be easy!
Turns out that first piece was the lucky one.
Most of the remaining film separated during removal. The brittle top layer came off, while the faded bottom layer and adhesive had basically cooked themselves onto the glass.
If you know, you know. 😅
It took us around 2 hours just to completely strip and clean the glass before we could start tinting.
Somewhere along the way, I also managed to cut my fingers twice. Not winning today.
A great combo of sweat, blood, soapy water and glue remover.
But the end result came up great. Clean finish, fresh film and that natural black look the customers absolutely loved. 👌
Old film removal is always a bit of a lucky dip. You never really know what you’re dealing with until you start peeling. Wednesday definitely wasn’t our lucky day, but we got there in the end!
And probably the best part of the day came right at the end. Raelene’s little girl was hiding shyly next to Mum and told me she wanted to give me $5 from her lunch money because she was so impressed with my work. 🥹
That might be one of the cutest tips I’ve ever received.
