I’ve been looking through the proof of my next picture book, Little Luna May – The Colours That Were Already There, and this page brought me straight back to the moment that inspired it.

After Cyclone Fina and days of rain in Darwin, my daughter and I went exploring across the road from our home in Woolner. Familiar places suddenly looked completely different.

After Cyclone Fina and days of rain in Darwin, my daughter and I went exploring across the road from our home in Woolner. Familiar places suddenly looked completely different.

This illustration comes from a fallen tree we stopped to notice. I remember thinking how alive it still looked — branches reaching, leaves holding on, colours shifting after the rain. Even fallen, it had not stopped being part of the landscape.

That walk became a way of looking more closely. We noticed wet earth, bark, leaves, petals, pods, stones and burnt sticks. Some colours deepened with water. Mud and charcoal left marks. Things we had passed many times before became materials for touching, gathering, mixing and making.

That is where The Colours That Were Already There began.

It is a story drawn from the world my daughter and I share — exploring nature close to home, noticing what changes, and discovering how much can be found in ordinary places when we slow down enough to look.

I’m also feeling very grateful today. Thank you to everyone who has bought one of my books or artist-designed T-shirts, joined one of my workshops, shared one of your own stories with me, or simply encouraged Maria Grujicic Studio along the way. Every one of those connections helps this work continue.

I’ll be at The Bookshop Darwin this Saturday from 10.30am for a book signing, and I’d love to see you there. 🌿

STUDIO PREVIEW — wearable art in development ✨

I’ve been experimenting with translating one of my original artworks into artist-designed clothing.

For this denim jacket study, I removed the original background so the individual painted forms sit directly against the denim. I love how differently an artwork can behave when it moves from the wall onto something we wear.

This is still in development — I’m testing how my artworks might translate across clothing and everyday objects before deciding which pieces become part of the Studio collection.

I’d love to know what you think: what would you like to see this design on?
A denim jacket? T-shirt? Dress? Skirt? Bag? Something completely different?

Tell me in the comments — your suggestions may help shape what I develop next. 💭

COMING SOON — Emergent Bird T-Shirt Dress

This new artist-designed dress is developed from an original painting created through layered pigment, repeated symbols and intuitive mark-making.

As I worked, a bird form gradually emerged within the painting. The story behind the original work remains private, but its colours, symbols and unexpected forms have now become the basis for this wearable-art edition.

The original painting carries across the front of the dress, balanced with a deep blue back and muted rust sleeves drawn from the artwork’s palette.

A new piece in my developing wearable print series.

Coming soon to Maria Grujicic Studio.

A new women’s organic T-shirt is coming to Maria Grujicic Studio.

Remote is an original graphic artwork inspired by Darwin — a place shaped by distance, creativity, resilience and community. Living and creating in the Top End can mean being far from major centres, but it can also create space for distinctive ideas, strong connections and unexpected possibilities.

Printed on a soft organic cotton women’s tee in an off-white tone, with the original black and grey Remote artwork across the front.

**FREE Children’s Art Workshop in Darwin | Ages 6–12**

The **Tactile Wall Art Project** invites children aged 6–12 to explore drawing, texture, construction, sculpture and imaginative making in a hands-on creative workshop at UNTiTLED gallery+studio.

Children will be encouraged to experiment with materials, follow their own ideas and create individual and collaborative responses that become part of an **evolving exhibition**.

This is a process-led workshop where curiosity, play and experimentation matter more than making one “perfect” finished artwork.

**FREE Teen Art Workshop in Darwin | Ages 13–18**

Want to make something experimental, tactile and completely your own?

The **Tactile Wall Art Project** invites teens aged 13–18 to explore drawing, sculpture, construction, texture and unusual materials in a hands-on creative workshop at UNTiTLED gallery+studio.

This is not about making one “perfect” finished artwork. It is about experimenting, responding to materials, developing ideas and contributing your own work to an **evolving exhibition** that changes as participants add to it.

Movement is part of the making process in my art workshops for children.

Children do not only sit at a table and copy a model. They move through the studio, choose materials, respond to colour and texture, talk about their ideas, try things out, change direction, and build confidence through exploration.

Sometimes we begin with movement, music, body sculpture or a playful drama prompt before moving into drawing, painting, sculpture or installation. These moments support imagination, social connection, problem-solving and creative thinking.

The aim is not for every child to make the same artwork. The aim is for children to observe, respond, imagine and create in their own way — with gentle guidance, thoughtful materials and room for discovery.

I am currently developing new Tactile Wall Art workshops and creative learning resources for children aged 6–12.

COMING SOON — Studio Wall Art

I’ve been testing how some of my original studio artworks might translate into matte art prints.

This frottage-inspired work is one of the first pieces I’m considering for a small wall-art collection. I’m planning to order a proof first so I can check the colour, surface and print quality before making it available through my online shop.

I love seeing the work move from the studio into an interior setting like this.
