Vessels of Light
A vessel is a hollow form that holds or contains. A vessel with light inside needs spaces to release the light for it to be seen. The exhibition ‘Vessels of Light’ is an investigation of the idea of containment- what does the vessel hold- contrasted with the notion of revelation- the empty cut outs/piercings created in a vessel to reveal inner light. The exploration of light emerging from spaces, creating shadow, pattern and shape holds much symbology; illumination, hope, truth, a light in the dark. The vessel itself is also laden with meaning and tension; emptiness & fullness, life & death, containment & release. These are common themes for both artists.

Ochre’s practice is focussed largely around vessels and form, inspired by the natural environment around her. She started this body of work during her pregnancy and approached her hollow forms through the experience of creating and holding life, transformation, emptiness & fullness.
Teffany’s work is laden with mytho-poesis, telling stories through her figurative and imaginative pieces. She explores themes of connection and belonging. Teffany is Ochre’s mother and this is their first exhibition together.
