Meet Georgie, the artist behind
Georgie’s pottery story actually started long before Hounds. She first learned to throw as a kid with her dad, who was a potter, before returning to clay almost 30 years later.
In August 2025, she bought her first bag of clay and started handbuilding at home. A few classes later, she joined her first Hounds wheel class in October and hasn’t really stopped since.
She loves both wheel throwing and handbuilding, especially when she can combine the two. A freshly thrown pot rarely stays untouched for long, with Georgie often adding, carving or changing something to make it feel more like her own.
Her favourite pieces sit somewhere between functional and whimsical. Mugs, bowls, ikebana and the occasional completely unnecessary tiny creature all make the list.
Her dream is to create a large statement vessel that brings together throwing, handbuilding, texture and surface. Something ambitious enough to be a little scary to make. Just definitely not a teapot 😂
For anyone getting into ceramics, Georgie’s advice is to learn the whole process. Wedge and reclaim your clay, understand drying, glazing and firing, make lots of things and don’t feel like everything needs to be fired.
Make the terrible pieces too. Cut them up, learn from them, reclaim the clay and make something better.
Most importantly, be part of the studio community. Ask questions, share what you learn and think about what you can give back.
As Georgie puts it, clay rewards curiosity, community, humility and a fair bit of stubbornness. 🤎
