It’s been a while!
I had a thought earlier in the year as I was on the beach with my son and our dogs, about to record a video as I often did to post to my stories. However, I stopped myself. I wondered, why the need to share such precious moments? Take the video, but take in the moment more. Let it be real, not an instagram highlight, and save it in my camera roll.
Sure, sharing our lives is what the social platforms want, it’s what I’d become accustomed to doing as a business owner as I know so many of us have. The glorification of the ‘hustle culture’, the strive to be busy all the time as if the busy-ness puts us up on a pedestal of business success saying ‘Look guys, we’re so busy, we must be so successful’, etc. etc. (I know you get the Gist!).
A new way of thinking popped into my mind that day on the beach;
*If it’s not shared, it still happens.* And what I came to discover is that it does still happen, life carries on and you become SO MUCH more present.
I took myself away from socials this year after this realisation, simply to relieve one piece of the pressure puzzle that felt like an enormous, constantly growing pile of doom in my mind. I’ve since removed other pieces also to simplify life, be more present and to completely absorb and enjoy my boy. Our children have ONE childhood. I want to be here for it! I want my boy to know that I’m here for it and loving it alongside him.
Anyhow, I decided I should take a tiny step back into social media as a business owner to share a few snippets of what we’ve been up to. But I absolutely intend on keeping my distance and to keep my time restrictions in place. Because that doom scroll and constant pressure of being present and active on social media can be so detrimental to our health, our family lives, our children and our productivity.
