How do you paint a feeling? For me, it starts by becoming still enough to notice it.

Not trying to control the outcome. Not trying to make the work look like anything in particular. Just staying with the colour, the movement, the water, the space and allowing one mark to answer the next.

Abstraction gives me a way to translate something that is felt rather than seen.

This is part of the process behind Afterglow, my interpretation of Karl Monaghan’s The Jetty, Monkey Mia, a work about presence, softness, and the moment when everything seems to slow.

I’m back at the Museum of Geraldton this week for two more drop-in Soul Circle Studio sessions.

Come and create your own beautiful Soul Circle artwork with me, inspired by the incredible Costarella exhibition currently showing at the Museum.

Afterglow.

My interpretation of Karl Monaghan’s The Jetty, Monkey Mia.

I was drawn to the stillness, the softened light and the reflection across the water. Afterglow is about that feeling that lingers after a moment has passed, when everything seems to slow and you become more aware of being there.

Karl has framed the work beautifully, with the kind of world-class finish that makes the whole piece feel complete.

I went for the fashion. I left thinking about the paintings.

A little walk through Costarella: Fashioning a Legacy, celebrating the extraordinary life and work of Western Australian fashion designer Aurelio Costarella. A world class exhibition right here in Geraldton.

The couture is beautiful, but towards the end of the exhibition I found myself drawn to another part of his creative life. In his later years, Aurelio turned increasingly to painting and other forms of artistic expression, alongside his advocacy for mental health.

His paintings feel quiet, fluid and deeply personal. And I couldn’t help seeing a connection to my own Soul Circles, in the circles, the movement of colour and that sense of allowing the medium to find its own way.

Perhaps that’s what I loved most. Creativity doesn’t always have to become something. Sometimes the making itself is enough.

I’m getting ready for my Drop-in Soul Circle Studio at the Museum of Geraldton, alongside the beautiful Costarella: Fashioning a Legacy exhibition.

Seeing Aurelio Costarella’s couture garments alongside his fluid watercolour paintings, and the way those abstract forms found their way into his fabric designs, made this feel like such a fitting place to share Soul Circles. It’s a lovely reminder that creativity can flow from one medium into another.

Come and sit down, play with colour, slow down for a while, and create one of your own.

Throughout 2021 and 2022 a collective conversation began in the North Midlands. Our communities, along with an artist from each region of Western Australia, explored a profound truth, reflecting on the natural rhythms of regional life: the inevitable cycles of drought and rain, hardship and prosperity, boom and bust. outside of our control.

It became clear that the one constant throughout our personal and collective lives is change, and that we all, inevitably, ebb and flow.

What began as the Ebb+Flow exhibition at The Bank Gallery in Carnamah during 2022 soon evolved into a far-reaching conversation across the state. Between 2023 and 2025, the exhibition toured Western Australia, sparking powerful conversations. Each community visited created unique artwork in response to the theme, beautifully weaving their stories into the artistic tapestry begun in the North Midlands.

This year, our shared story comes together. We are bursting with pride to invite you to the launch of the Ebb+Flow statewide exhibition.

There is no cost or booking to attend, just come along!

The exhibition is a testament to shared ownership, co-created by artists from across the state through conversations sparked in the North Midlands that extended out to each region of WA.

I have always been stopped by a Vogue cover.

That gaze. That particular stillness behind the surface. The best ones don’t just show beauty, they hold something. A quality of presence that goes beyond styling and light.

I’ve spent my creative life in two worlds. Creative branding and fine art. Identity and soul. Surface and depth.

These are where they meet.

SoulCircle art placed against iconic high fashion covers, not a collaboration, just a conversation I needed to have. And what I found is that they fit each other. As though presence was always what the cover was reaching for.
