Ebb+Flow Statewide now showing at the Co-op Gallery in Coroow!

Throughout 2021 and 2022 a collective conversation began in the North Midlands. Our communities, along with an artist from each region of Western Australia, explored a profound truth, reflecting on the natural rhythms of regional life: the inevitable cycles of drought and rain, hardship and prosperity, boom and bust. outside of our control.

It became clear that the one constant throughout our personal and collective lives is change, and that we all, inevitably, ebb and flow.

What began as the Ebb+Flow exhibition at The Bank Gallery in Carnamah during 2022 soon evolved into a far-reaching conversation across the state. Between 2023 and 2025, the exhibition toured Western Australia, sparking powerful conversations. Each community visited created unique artwork in response to the theme, beautifully weaving their stories into the artistic tapestry begun in the North Midlands.

This year, our shared story comes together. We are bursting with pride to invite you to the launch of the Ebb+Flow statewide exhibition.

This is more than an exhibition. It is a celebration of our shared spirit and a chance to celebrate the art and community that binds us together as Western Australians.

The Co-op gallery located at 3 Main Street, Coorow and is open daily from 9.30am to 4.00pm.

I never really know where a Soul Circle is going when I begin.

There’s no sketch and no picture in my head of what it should become. I start with the circle and respond to what happens next.

Some marks spread. Some disappear. Others seem to find their own way across the paper. And somewhere in that process of letting go, something begins to emerge that I could never have planned.

I think that’s one of the things I love most about painting this intuitive way. It reminds me that not everything needs to be worked out before we begin.

Sometimes you just have to make the first mark and see where it takes you…

Sometimes the names are almost as inspiring as the colours themselves.

A few new inks arrived this week, so I spent the afternoon in the winter sunshine watching them meet each other on the paper. There’s always a moment where they stop being colours and begin having a conversation of their own.

I’ve been thinking about how this painting began.

Not with an idea. Not with a sketch. But with people.

People who’d never seen a Soul Circle before. People who had no idea what it would become. People simply willing to place one mark on a blank sheet of paper and trust the next person to respond.

That’s probably why Two-Headed Serpent means so much to me.

It reminds me that change doesn’t always happen in one defining moment. Sometimes it happens quietly, layer by layer, through the people we meet and the conversations we have.

Tomorrow this painting joins the Ebb + Flow Statewide Exhibition offical launch The Bank Gallery in Carnamah, but for me, it will always be a reminder of an afternoon around a table in Northampton The Hampton Gallery , where something much bigger than a painting quietly began.

The original artwork will be touring Western Australia as part of the exhibition.

This painting began around a table in the small Mid West town of Northampton. This weekend, it becomes part of a statewide story.

A few years ago, during my artist residency in Northampton, I held one of my soulcircle workshops. As part of it, we gathered around a single sheet of paper and responded to one simple idea: the one constant in life is change.

Layer by layer, through many hands and many conversations and time, Two-Headed Serpent emerged.

This weekend, the painting joins collaborative works created by artists and communities from every region of Western Australia for the launch of the Ebb + Flow Statewide Exhibition at The Bank Gallery in Carnamah.

What began as one workshop in Northampton has become part of a conversation stretching right across Western Australia. I’m incredibly grateful to be exhibiting alongside such a talented group of artists and the communities they worked with.

I have always been stopped by a Vogue cover.

That gaze. That particular stillness behind the surface. The best ones don’t just show beauty, they hold something. A quality of presence that goes beyond styling and light.

I’ve spent my creative life in two worlds. Creative branding and fine art. Identity and soul. Surface and depth.

These are where they meet.

SoulCircle art placed against iconic high fashion covers, not a collaboration, just a conversation I needed to have. And what I found is that they fit each other. As though presence was always what the cover was reaching for.
