This is Alec, aka one of the best blokes I’ve ever had the pleasure of knocking about with, aka heritage post and rail fencing guru (among many other things!).

There’s something pretty special about learning an old skill from someone who has spent a lifetime doing it. You can’t get an education like that from a book or YouTube!

Grateful to Alec for the time, the lessons, and the stories. This is what keeping old skills alive looks like.

How good is a Tassie weekend? And how good is a Tassie Bluey!

Went for a cruise up the coast and managed to score myself this sweet old Bluey for bu**er all!

These bad boys are one of my fave pieces of Tassie history. Made in Tasmania from Tasmanian wool, they go back to the late 1890s and were originally made as tough, waterproof coats for miners and outdoor labourers, before being adopted by the likes of fishermen and plenty of other blokes looking to ward off the weather.

Reckon this old girl’s still got a few years left in her yet. 💪🏿

Today’s job… making a dent in this lot!

Cleaning the old mortar off a mountain of bricks so they can be used again on this 1920s bungalow.

Undoing some of the questionable decisions made during a 1970s reno and putting the old girl back the way she deserves to be.

It’s slow going… and there are approximately nine million bricks to go. 😂

Meet DenDen.

This little guy at the heart of the D. G. Law Heritage mark is inspired by the traditional art of my ancestors in East Sepik, Papua New Guinea.

My roots are in PNG, but Tasmania is where I’ve long called home, and where D. G. Law Heritage was born.

DenDen represents the two parts of my story, heritage and home.

Keep an eye out for this little guy making his mark around Tassie!

D. G. Law Heritage is named in honour of Dennis George Law – a man who believed in real materials, practical skills, and choosing quality over convenience.

He valued knowledge passed down through generations. He taught that things should be made to last, and that when they didn’t, they should be repaired – not replaced. That quality was worth waiting for, materials should be respected, and work should be done with care, even when no one was watching. His unwavering commitment to these principles defined his character.

D. G. Law Heritage exists to carry those values forward – drawing on traditional methods, heritage trades, and natural materials to create and restore honest goods for the home and workshop.

Today would have been Dennis’s birthday. It feels like the right day to begin.

Slow. Simple. Sustainable.
