A little bit of a different post tonight! Oscar has just received the Young Australia of the Year Arts and Cultural Award at our local Australia Day Awards ❤️
For those new to Oscar’s page, he volunteers his time to play The Last Post for the RSL services here in Innisfail, at the Dawn Service for Anzac Day, Remembrance Day and Vietnam Vets Day, as well as travels to many local schools to play this for their parades. It is a huge honour for him to do this and he is so proud to be able to represent his school and town in this way.
We are so very proud of him!

What is a Burl?? A burl (or burr) is a woody, rounded, abnormal growth on a tree trunk or branch, caused by stress, injury, or infection, resulting in a unique, swirling, and highly figured grain pattern prized by woodworkers for decorative items, veneer, and furniture. These growths contain dormant buds and a dense, twisted wood that's tougher than normal wood, often appearing as lumpy outgrowths covered in bark, though sometimes hidden. They are expensive to purchase and harder to turn resulting in a level of complexity.
