I can't wait until these baby Hippeastrums grow big enough to flower. Even though these will most likely be reds it's still exciting wondering what they might be. 🌸❤️🌱

How My Love of Hippeastrums Began

It all started with a half of a broken bulb I found on the path walking home from a high school basketball game.

I spotted it lying on the ground - broken, discarded and forgotten.
So naturally… I kicked it all the way down the street while I waited to be picked up.

At the end of the road, I picked it up, put it in my school bag, at home I tossed it into a pot with some soil and promptly forgot about it.

Years later, my mum handed me that same pot back.
That broken half bulb had survived and grown into a real plant.

From that one discarded piece, I now have over 80 bulbs.

Some are offsets from the original mother bulb.
Some are offsets of those offsets.
And some are seed-grown bulbs I’ve raised myself.

I’ve since added new colours and varieties to my collection, and I’m currently waiting on several seed-grown plants to flower for the very first time. I am eager to see which traits and colours they’ve inherited from their parent plants.

Sometimes the best things grow from the most unexpected beginnings. 🌸🌺
