Drying trimmed rosemary branches and paper bark from our tree .. ready for using in the bee smoker 🐝 using what’s in our garden .. the dried Rosemary works really well in the smoker and lasts a good 20 minutes .. perfect time for a hive check .. and the rosemary fumes are lovely to smell and the bees 🐝 are nice and calm ❤️

Seed saving is a long process .. as a seed saver and grower of WA acclimatised seeds .. it takes time ..and a lot of work !
When I sell out of seeds .. I can’t just pick up the phone and order more in and repack them … I let nature take its course and plant seeds .. nuture them .. thin them out and choose the healthiest disease free plants .. then feed them .. and wait !!
Wait for the flowers then the pollinators .. then let them dry naturally .. then bag or net them ..
Months pass ,seasons pass … then the seeds are sorted , cleaned of husks and packaged .
All done by hand 🖐️
It’s a process which I enjoy .. calms me too

Just wanted to share a picture this morning of the gorgeous flower spike on our Echium Simplex ( tower of jewels or pride of Tenerife ) before the sun 🌞 comes round on it .
We bought this plant over 3 years ago from Andrew at Kalamunda Plant Company and it’s now flowering … WOW.. the flower spike is about 2m high and full of nectar rich tiny blossoms .. this plant will die back now as it’s flowered for the first and final time .. but good news is once it sets seeds it will reproduce .. so hopefully I’ll have a few more pop up around its base (and maybe I can grab some seeds to propagate too)
In the next few days this should be a magnate for birds and insects .

It’s that lovely time of year
You’ve gone to all the workshops read all the books about getting your soil right and building up the microbial ecosystem…
Then you go to the big green shed and buy seeds and seedlings coated with fungicides …
Makes sense doesn’t it 🤷‍♀️

Up at the No Dig garden at The Natural Circle farm the sunflower 🌻 are out .. bees and flies are buzzing .. no spray no chemicals just natural as it should be 🐝
