✨ The Pilbara Art Collective website is now live! ✨

After months of planning, building, connecting and plenty of last-minute problem solving, we’re so excited to finally open the doors to the Pilbara Art Collective online.

This is our soft launch, so while we’re making a few final refinements, you can now jump in, have a look around and see what PAC is all about.

Discover Pilbara artists and makers, shop local art, explore the Pilbara Art Map, find creative places and events, and connect with the incredible creativity happening across our region.

Most of all, PAC is about supporting Pilbara arts and creating a place where our creative community can be seen, discovered and celebrated.

As we settle into launch, we’re also continuing to refine a few behind-the-scenes settings, including postage across our different artists and products, to make sure everything works as smoothly as possible.

A very special thank you to Vanessa Murray from Shut the Front Door for jumping in and being such a huge help with some of the technical issues — and for continuing to help us work through the final website tweaks. Your support has been incredibly appreciated.

A big thank you too to Indra, who is such an important part of the PAC team and quietly gets so much done behind the scenes. And to Elysia Canning and Melanie Wann Johnston, thank you for your inspiration, encouragement and for being part of the thinking and energy behind this journey.

And to the Pilbara arts community — I really can’t express how special it is to have your trust and support. It’s a community I feel incredibly privileged to work alongside, learn from and simply be in the presence of. The generosity, creativity and willingness to support one another is something very special, and I don’t take that trust for granted.

PAC would not be what it is without the artists, makers, creatives and supporters who have come on board, shared their work and believed in what we’re building. Thank you for being part of this journey.

We’re so excited for what comes next — new projects, collaborations, creative opportunities and plenty more ways to celebrate, connect and support arts across the Pilbara.

Have you spotted a painted water tank in your town?

Across the Pilbara, painted water tanks are transforming essential infrastructure into colourful community landmarks.

So far, we’ve identified examples in Onslow, Karratha, Port Hedland and Marble Bar, but we know there are more waiting to be discovered.

Do you know of a painted water tank in your community? Send us the location, a photo if you have one, and any details about the artist or story behind it.

We’re building the Pilbara Art Collective Creative Directory, a place designed to help people discover and connect with the talented creatives, organisations and businesses working across the region.

Whether you create, teach, photograph, design, curate, facilitate workshops or support creative projects, we’d love to hear from you.

The Creative Directory is open to:
artists, makers, photographers, designers, cultural practitioners, galleries, arts organisations, event professionals and creative service providers.

For the first 12 months, joining the directory is free.

This is an opportunity to increase your visibility, connect with new audiences and become part of a growing creative network across the Pilbara.

What does a place feel like through an artist’s eyes?

Meet Melanie Johnston, an abstract artist based in Karratha, Western Australia.

Inspired by the colours, textures and rhythms of the Pilbara, Melanie creates original artworks that explore the connection between place, memory and emotion.

Working from her Karratha studio, each piece is created by hand through layers of colour, expressive marks and patterns that reflect the landscapes and experiences that surround her.

Her artworks are a personal interpretation of the region, capturing the feeling of wide open spaces, changing colours and the unique character of the Pilbara.

We’re excited to welcome Melanie to Pilbara Art Collective and share her creative journey with our community.

Follow along as we introduce more artists and makers connected to the region.

Celebrating Pilbara artists on the national stage ❤️

A wonderful moment for the Pilbara, with Allery Sandy and Sylvia Wilson selected as finalists in the 2026 Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards (NATSIAA).

Presented by the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory in Darwin, NATSIAA is one of Australia’s most significant and long-running awards celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art.

From 221 entries nationally, just 64 works were selected as finalists — including only six artists from Western Australia. To have two Pilbara artists among those six WA finalists is something worth celebrating.

Pilbara artists Elysia Canning and Melanie Johnson were there in Darwin to celebrate Allery and Sylvia and shared these beautiful moments with us.

Congratulations Allery Sandy and Sylvia Wilson on this incredible national recognition. What a wonderful representation of the strength, talent and cultural richness of artists from across the Pilbara.
