Art that Champions your Cause
At MLC Gallery (c.1993) focuses on culturally engaging art and history projects that unearth forgotten stories. Artivists that are change-makers and ready to challenge the issues of our time drives the program.
Miriam Cabello established MLC Powerhouse Design Studio in 1993 & with her creative partners launched MLC Gallery in 2004. The inaugural exhibition highlighted the conflict of the Iraqi war, displacement, and refugees. Three Iraqi Artists from Western Sydney were selected and cross-cultural educational programs were developed to engage the community.
MLC has kept this curatorial mission alive through publicly acclaimed exhibits such as 'The Pugilist Passion' - American Institute of Architects (jury awarded exhibition), artistic collaborations with the Nelson Mandela project and programs involving CaLD and Aboriginal youth. MLC’s altruistic efforts have been recognized through the Budyari Ngalaya Partnership (Indigenous for Good Ally) as having a positive impact in the NSW Indigenous community.
In 2015 Miriam Cabello returned to Sydney from the USA with an international award, Keys to the City of Daphne, Alabama and her artwork as part of the permanent collection of the United States Sports Academy Museum.
