I HEREBY STATE THAT I DO NOT GIVE MY PERMISSION For Face Book to use any of my information or posts. At MLC Gallery (c.1993) we focus on culturally focused art and history projects that unearth forgotten stories. ighted the conflict of the Iraqi war, displacement, and refugees. Three Iraqi Artists from Western Sydney were selected and cross-cultural educational programs were developed to engage the community. MLC has kept this curatorial mission alive through publicly acclaimed exhibits such as The Pugilist Passion - American Institute of Architects (jury awarded exhibition), artistic collaborations with the Nelson Mandela project and programs involving CaLD and Aboriginal youth. MLC’s altruistic efforts have been recognized through the Budyari Ngalaya Partnership (Indigenous for Good Ally) as having a positive impact in the NSW Indigenous community. In 2015 Miriam Cabello returned to Sydney from the USA with an international award, Keys to the City of Daphne, Alabama and her artwork as part of the permanent collection of the United States Sports Academy Museum. Miriam Cabello’s art and artistic practice are emblematic of cross-cultural understanding and respect for human rights. Cabello’s oil paintings emerge from these themes and are exquisitely realised in her iconic bodies of work: White Rope, The first September 11-The Chilean Military Coup, and The Pugilist Passion. In The Passion series Cabello honours the oral histories of Aboriginal boxing legends. She employs religious allegory to interpret their evocative stories on a grand scale. The White Rope series depicts luminous torsos woven into a grid of gestural drips. Each emotive piece explores the range of emotions she experienced when confronted by her first live boxing match – the cascading drips of blood and sweat that stained the boxer’s body, the solace and tenacity in the individual’s gaze. Series II & I has sold out to collectors and major works are held in permanent collections. Cabello has been acknowledged nationally and internationally with over 25 awards for her contribution to art, education, and cross-cultural engagement. Some of her career highlights include being the first Australian selected by the Vatican to exhibit during the 2008 World Youth Day festival and consecutive finalist at the National Art Museum of Sport. The inaugural painting White Rope I was awarded at the Florence Biennial of Contemporary Art, Italy.

Ali: Cobalt Violet
Oil on Linen
MLC Gallery
This painting depicts young Cassius Clay at the precipice of his astounding career and introduces a new, limited palette of oil pigments. The desired effects of cobalt violet's ' reflective ' qualities were achieved after extensive experimentation of the indirect method (applying numerous transparent glazes). Each glaze is allowed to dry before the next coat is applied.
The colour of the first layer (imprimatura) - cobalt violet is inspired by Leonardo da Vinci. "It has been said that Leonardo da Vinci preferred to meditate in a lavender or purple-coloured light". Renee Phillips
