Kintsugi Studio Using natural materials only. Not any VOCs. All the processes are nature-friendly and food-safe. I am from Osaka/Kyoto, Japan.

Now I live in Launceston, Tasmania and have set up my Kintsugi / urushi lacquer art workshop. I also teach the natural kintsugi methods online course at Kintsugi Japan. I use only natural materials - not using irritating solvents or any VOCs.

One of my favourite finishes lately — Tame-tsugi. ✨ A layer of red urushi is covered with a translucent brown urushi, giving a rich, w**e-like colour.

Where the translucent brown urushi is thicker, the w**e colour turns deep; where it runs thin, the red shows through more.

So cool!! 😎

This handmade wooden spoon set came in for repair. The ring on the handle had cracked open over time, leaving a gap of about 1cm. It is now joined back together with a double layer of gold leaf. ✨🪵

A sweet piece with a lot of character — the mother of pearl catches the light beautifully against the matte gold.
