Next up!
One of my favourite paintings I’ve ever done! For one of my favourite people —

This was a housewarming gift for wonderful Hannah.

We both have a shared love of Pigeons, which Hannah increased for me when she shared a podcast a few years back on the history of pidgeons. We potentially may all know that Pigeons were once incredibly important as messenger birds— but that podcast really increased my respect for Pigeons.

There is a lot of symbolism and meaning in Pigeons I think. What they say of us humans and how we treat and respond to creatures / people when they have value to us, and when they don’t.

And, beyond all that, they are silly, cute birds and I love their many shades, colours and dynamics. I also love how social they are and how resilient.

These particular Pigeons painted here, were born from an original plein air sketch I did of some Pigeons in my brief stay in Athens — back in 2023.

I have still been painting! I just haven’t been sharing much last year as I’ve been a bit busy / some paintings haven’t been worth sharing / I didn’t have a good camera for a while (thanks for sharing your camera with me!) / some paintings are longer projects and aren’t finished or ready to be displayed yet (exhibition one day in future!)

But I’ve got a couple from last year that I really love and I’d like to share.

First up is this piece I painted for the magnificent .sayegh and for her son Moussa.

I wanted to make a lil piece of magic for Alia and her family— I encorported many little elements into this painting to try and express the unique and wonderfulness of their family.

An extra bonus in this painting, is some of the stars should glow in the dark :)

A small sunset painting in gouache painted as a thank you for a pair of magnificent crochet gloves I was given last year 🥹

The gloves were purple and pink, so I tried to include as much purple and pink as I could in this sunset piece.

Cute lil queen going on a journey.

Wow I really just don’t really post much here any more! But I’m still painting every week, nowadays, I’m focusing on quality over quantity. I’m getting more contemplative in my art — good stuff ☺️

Finally, the last of the images I will be sharing from the children’s book I wrote and illustration for my niece. This is One of my favourite illustrations i did, and also it comes at a very peaceful, mindful moment in the book too. I think this scene captures the good natured companionship well.

Also I like that I used one of the digital sketch’s I did for mural number 5 to help me make this illustration extra special.

Ah, how things unfold and grow overtime.

The children’s book I wrote included a shape shifting moon who came and visited my niece in her dreams. They (because of course the moon is non-binary) were one of the major characters of this book.

I wrote the moon to represent: a stand in character to represent internal self love, care and support (aka unconditional positive regard) + whimsy + internal resilience and wisdom.

I am hoping that this book may stand the text of time, and provide comfort to my niece long after the memories I linked to this book have faded into the past.

Another illustration from the children’s book I wrote for my niece. This image depicted ‘Muslim women of Eritrea who ride ostriches’

Admittedly this was an intentional shout-out to one of my dear uni friends, who I don’t see anymore, but who I was thankful for our friendship during my undergrad.

I don’t think my friend ever road an ostrich though! Blame the prince of Persia for that idea haha
