It’s the details.

The placement of the lighting. The height of the curtains. The way hardware aligns. How one material transitions into another. The consistency of finishes throughout the home.

None of these decisions need to be the star of the room, but together they create that polished, resolved feeling that’s hard to achieve by styling alone.

A professionally designed home doesn’t just look beautiful. Every detail feels like it belongs exactly where it is.

Beautiful interiors aren’t created by simply filling a room with beautiful things.

Every piece needs to make sense within the bigger picture. Where it sits, how it relates to everything around it, what purpose it serves and why it belongs there in the first place.

The lighting, hardware, finishes, furniture placement and even the smallest transitions all contribute to how the space ultimately feels.

When every detail has been considered, nothing feels accidental. Everything simply works together.

Beautiful finishes can only take a room so far.

If the lighting is positioned awkwardly, the hardware doesn’t align, the curtains sit at the wrong height or the transitions between materials feel unresolved, even an expensive space can feel slightly off.

These details might seem insignificant when you’re making hundreds of decisions during a renovation, but they’re often what bring the entire room together.

It’s not just about choosing beautiful things. It’s about making sure every decision works beautifully together.

The best design details aren’t always the ones you immediately notice.

They’re the power points positioned where you actually need them, the hardware sitting exactly where it should, the flooring transitions that feel seamless and the finishes that work together without competing.

When those little decisions are considered properly, you don’t stop and think about them. The whole home simply feels right.

And that’s often where good design does its best work.

It’s a tiny detail, but it can make a huge difference to how finished a space feels.

Where timber meets tile. Where one flooring material transitions into another. Where stone finishes and cabinetry begins.

These junctions need to be considered before installation, not figured out once everything is already going in.

When they’re planned properly, your eye moves through the space without interruption. When they’re not, even beautiful materials can suddenly feel disconnected.

Good design considers not only what materials you choose, but exactly how they come together.

A big part of my job as an interior designer is thinking about the decisions you might not realise need to be made.

Where the switches sit. How the hardware aligns. Where two materials meet. The height of the lighting. The finish that connects one space to another.

They might feel like tiny details during the design process, but they’re often the things that determine whether a finished home feels considered or just slightly off.

My job is to notice those details before you have to live with them.

Some of the most important design details are the ones you barely notice when they’ve been done properly.

Here are 3 that can quietly make or break a room:

1️⃣ Curtain length
Too short and the room can instantly feel awkward. The right length creates a much more polished finish.

2️⃣ Hardware placement
Handles and k***s might be small, but inconsistent positioning can make beautiful cabinetry feel less considered.

3️⃣ Flooring transitions
Where one material ends and another begins should feel intentional and seamless, not like an afterthought.

When these details are right, you probably won’t think twice about them. The room will simply feel finished.

Good design isn’t always about the details that immediately catch your eye.

Sometimes it’s the hardware sitting exactly where it should, the switches positioned thoughtfully, the flooring transitions that feel seamless and the finishes that quietly connect from one space to the next.

When these details are considered properly, you probably won’t notice each one individually.

You’ll just notice that the whole home feels right.

That’s the difference thoughtful design makes.

When I walk into a room, my eyes naturally go to the little things.

The height of the curtains. Where the lighting sits. How the hardware lines up. The way different materials meet. Whether the finishes feel connected from one area to the next.

They might not be the first things you consciously notice, but they all influence how considered and finished the room feels.

Because good interior design isn’t only about choosing beautiful pieces. It’s making sure every detail works together.

This is what I mean when I say the smallest details matter.

A room can feel calm, cohesive and effortless, but that feeling comes from dozens of decisions working quietly together. The scale of the rug, the placement of the lighting, how the furniture sits within the space, the mix of materials and the way colours and finishes carry from one area to the next.

None of those details need to shout for attention.

When they’re considered properly, you simply walk into the room and think, **this feels right.**

That’s the quiet work behind a beautifully resolved home.
