I’m pausing for a warming miso before diving into glazing.

I like to organise the bisqued wares into their intended colour groups before I begin. I check I have the correct colours for waiting orders and to top up any pieces that have disappeared from my online store.

It takes time and provides the opportunity to wipe each piece and give it a once over before I begin.

And you may have noticed… I quite like order.

The kiln tech will be here tomorrow to replace those weary elements and then its full firings ahead. Woohoo!

Keep an eye on your inbox. Subscribers are always the first to hear when new pieces are available. There’s a link to subscribe in my bio should you wish to add your name.

Espresso or cup of tea? What do you like to dunk your Monte Carlo in?

As the image says, I am offering free delivery this weekend. It can be applied to all orders placed online, for postage Australia wide. Ends 9pm this Sunday 31st May.

The discount code is, you guessed it, MonteCarlo.

Rising costs mean I have had to adjust my pricing structures, including delivery fees, so I thought I’d offer this perk before that comes into effect.

How cute are the l’il espresso cups, next to my full size faceted cups? Is anyone else reminded of mothers’ group days? 🙋‍♀️👶

“A woman must have money and a room of one’s own…”

Woolf was talking of writers but the same can be said for women in any creative field. While money is often elusive and I don’t exactly have a room, I do have a space of my own.

This is my space - a 20m2 area in a near derelict warehouse in Brunswick. It’s hot in summer, cold in winter and rust falls from the skylight when it’s windy. I love it.

I have rented this space for nearly ten years and have had the good fortune of being part of a swelling, organic network of artists, photographers and makers. Some of the time I have the warehouse to myself, other times it’s a flurry of activity. Often there are people working away noiselessly and we only connect fleetingly as we pass in the corridor. Occasionally there are Friday beers.

Whatever the circumstance, be it long chats, exhibition outings or quick waves as we rush out the door, the sense of camaraderie, shared experience and work ethic is priceless.

This was going to be a post about the importance of space. Turns out it’s about community, and the people who help me feel less odd.

So here’s cheers to my studio colleagues, past and present and down the laneway.

You know who you are. 🍻

Nostalgia plays an important role in my work, as does my cultural identity.

I was fortunate to have a happy, healthy and safe childhood in Australia. I wish everyone could have as peaceful and secure a home as I did.

Creating pottery for other people’s homes is my way of communicating and making material this wish. I like to think the addition of my pottery, in the loungerooms and kitchens of your homes, will add a sense of that joy I remember from my childhood, and from childhoods similar to mine.

Who else has fairy bread as a core memory?

I suspect does. 😃

Using my new pink and yellow glazed wares, Claudia has created an ode to this Aussie icon. The TipTop sandwich loaf and marg have been put aside, in favour of a milk bread recipe and cultured butter whipped with vanilla bean. Yum! Pop on over to her Insta for the recipe.

Parents might not drop-and-dash if you serve this at your kids next party.

Oh my, what an improvement! 🥣🥇

Oats from , that I milled myself, cooked following Carolyn’s detailed instructions and enjoyed with plum, almonds, ricotta and a dash of maple syrup.

Breakfast of champions!

Setting the table is one of life’s simple pleasures.

I love the ritual of choosing and arranging the plates, bowls, glasses, napery and cutlery. I think about who will be seated, what is to be served and how to create a welcoming space for nurture and nourishment.

Adding handmade pottery to your table heightens those moments shared with family, friends and good food.

I have listed a collection of tableware online that focuses on the basics, with a cohesive range of glaze colour choices.

What pieces would add that little something to your home cooked meals?

The link to the shop is in the comments below.

On another note - I am immensely grateful to all who attended my studio sale at the weekend. The proceeds exactly match the cost of kiln element replacement, which is a huge relief.

Thank you for your support, generosity and kind words.

⭐️Open studio TODAY⭐️

11-3pm
160 Victoria St Brunswick

Lift those rainy day spirits by acquiring new pottery for your cosy homes and bunkering down for the rest of the weekend.

As well as a table load of seconds and samples, I have new wares, soon to be listed online, available for purchase.

I would love you to bring your own bag. I will supply wrapping material if needed.

Cash preferable, although I forgot to get change so card payments are more likely. 🙃

Seconds and Samples Sale
This Sunday 17th May 11-3pm
160 Victoria St Brunswick

When I first became a potter, a couple of decades ago, I was told to smash my less-than-perfect pieces. “Always put your best foot forward” was the advice and “Don’t undermine the value of work.”

I was never particularly comfortable with this. I am pleased that now, with our increased awareness and respect for material use, it has become common practice to host a sale for the odd and slightly flawed.

I like the idea that these pieces will be adopted and loved, in all their wonky glory. It also gives those with less discretionary income a greater opportunity to acquire a functional, handmade item.

I host a sale once a year and it helps me cover some expenses. This year’s sale will be entirely devoted to new elements for my kiln, which is currently out of action.

I hope to see you this Sunday.
