Yesterday was a pretty bloody special day for Lovett Homestead 🥹

300 individually boxed cupcakes, baked, decorated, labelled and packed for the Moondani Toombadool Centre at Swinburne University.

We kept the flavours simple with vanilla cupcakes + vanilla buttercream and chocolate cupcakes + chocolate buttercream, alternating between custom Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flag sprinkle mixes. 🖤💛❤️ 💚💙🤍

Then came my favourite part — I got to stay and hand them out.

All 300 cupcakes were gone in around 35 minutes. 😂

I got to yarn with so many people, hear some incredibly lovely feedback about the cupcakes and introduce a whole bunch of new people to Lovett Homestead. I may have also shamelessly pointed everyone towards my QR code while I was at it. 😂

One of the things I love most about these spaces is the community that comes with them. I got to catch up with other mob businesses and friends I’ve met along this business journey, meet new people and genuinely just enjoy being part of the day.

Lovett Homestead has always been about more than making something sweet. I want it to be about gathering, community and making good food that people genuinely enjoy sharing together — and yesterday felt like a little glimpse of exactly that.

A massive thank you to the Moondani Toombadool Centre for choosing Lovett Homestead and giving me the opportunity to be part of the day. I absolutely loved it. 🤎

And to everyone who grabbed a cupcake, scanned my QR code, followed the page, sent me a message or stopped to tell me you enjoyed it — thank you!

Hopefully this is only the beginning of many more days like this. 🧁

Please welcome Lovett Homestead’s newest employee: Bully, Head of Quality Control 🧁🐶

His qualifications include staring through the kitchen windows while I bake, appearing instantly when a cupcake is unboxed, and conducting extremely enthusiastic taste testing when permitted.

Before anyone comes for me 😂 chocolate is not an everyday treat, we know chocolate can be toxic to dogs, and this is absolutely a do not try this at home situation.

Also, Bully is not allowed in the kitchen while I’m baking. His official workstation is outside, supervising me through every available window like the tiny micromanager he is.

Performance review: 10/10 commitment. Zero respect for portion control.

Sometimes I just want to play with buttercream 🌸

No order, no brief — just an excuse to try something new.

I’ve been wanting to test out a different piping style and have a play with loading multiple shades of the same colour into one piping bag. I’m a sucker for monochromatic colour palettes, so naturally we ended up with layers of blush, pink and dusty mauve, finished with a tiny sprinkle of matching pearls. 🩷

These were jumbo vanilla cupcakes made purely for experimenting (and conveniently, I have family very willing to dispose of the evidence 😂).

I think the new piping tip has officially earned itself a place in the rotation.

Sometimes the best part of creating is just seeing what happens. ✨

A little something special from the Homestead today 🤎

My eldest turned 13 today, so of course I had to make his birthday cake.

He asked for vanilla and raspberry, so I made layers of vanilla cake filled with whipped white chocolate ganache and homemade raspberry jam, then kept it simple with fresh berries, a dusting of icing sugar and his beautiful custom birthday topper.

Cakes aren’t really my thing — cupcakes will always have my heart 😂 — but I loved making this one for him.

I love desserts that don’t need to be perfectly covered in buttercream to be beautiful. Good cake, beautiful fillings, fresh fruit and a little something special on top is much more my style.
