Aaron McDonell Electrician

Aaron McDonell Electrician Licenced Electrician providing installations and repairs to lights, switches, ceiling fans, smoke de Ideal for changing old lights, switches and power points.

I'm an Electrician that has been running my own small contracting business for approximately 5 years. I mainly specialise in commercial and domestic installations and repairs, in the Sutherland Shire and southern Sydney area. I have had over 20 years experience in the electrical trades industry, with a wide range of different job tasks. I have worked on the construction of heavy-duty-industrial ir

on ore mining equipment in the heart of the Pilbara in WA, as well as the intricate and extremely detailed chandelier fittings at Tiffany and Co jewellery stores. Ideal for installing ceiling fans. I'm also open to most handyman tasks, I have the skills. experience, tools and equipment that are perfect for those odd jobs around the house. Such as drilling that one off hole you don't want to buy a drill that you may never use again. I could also be your perfect man for chopping up those large branches or fence palings that are too big to fit into the bin or trailer. I'm all about thinking outside the box and being well suited for a task that might not normally be considered an electricians role, like securing your bookshelf or DVD rack to the wall to prevent your toddler pulling it onto themself, or putting a bracket on the wall to hang your favourite pot plant. Have you ever wanted a shelf or cabinet made a certain way but could never find one that was quite your cup of tea at a furniture shop? I have also build several cabinets and sets of shelves to suit my specific desires, I'm sure I could do the same for you too. Check out my photos.

Hello everyone, hope you are all well. I heard on the radio the other day that 30 people in Australia have died this year due to house fires. Yes 30! The year isn’t even half over yet. If this continues at the same rate, it will be 70 by the end of the year. 70 lives lost that could have been prevented. Do you have working smoke detectors in date? Do you have safety switches? If you don’t, you are at risk. Something else very important to consider is how old your house is. If it was built pre 1950, there is a high probability it has the dreaded “cotton cable” somewhere that you are completely unaware of. I found this at a customers house recently. To make matters even worse, it was in metal conduit (yes metal conduit), no earth and no safety switches. I spent a few days updating the switchboard, removing the cotton cable and getting it up to a safe standard. Please check your smoke detectors and switchboard. Feel free to drop me a line if you feel anything isn’t quite up to scratch. Aaron

Hello everyone, I’m sure most of you have seen these (if you follow my page anyway), but just thought I would re-post a few of them, especially being the 10 year milestone. I’m keen to build a few more if you are interested of know anybody that may be? They are made with outdoor rated materials, galvanised hardware and are complete with a magnetic latch, shelf, gutter and downpipe. They are guaranteed to last a very long time. Thanks for looking, I will be posting several other things over the next few weeks to commemorate the 10th anniversary milestone of my small business.

Hello everyone, it’s not the first time I have posted non electrical work, but just a reminder I do MUCH more. Here is a before and after front door lock change. I couldn’t believe the p**s poor screws that were supplied, so I put much better ones in.

Hello everyone, hope you are all well. I just completed pool box number 4 for Kenny Bowen, a good mate from high school. Complete with roof, gutter, drainpipe, shelf and magnetic latching door. This one was a bit more involved then the other 3 I did, as it needed to be a bit higher to ensure some poorly done render work was covered up. I build them very solid with all water rated materials to ensure they will literally last decades. Thanks for checking it out.

Hello everyone, hope you are all well. Just a friendly reminder to check your smoke detectors are no more then a decade old. I came across this one today, installed 1995 and expired in 2005. Literally 30 years old. It’s generally easy to pick the age without too much difficulty, as the more yellow they are, the older they are. If you leave them like this and have a house fire, your insurance company could possibly even get out of helping you and paying for repairs/etc, as you allowed it to get to this stage. Please CHECK THEM.

Hello everyone, hope you are all well. As I’m sure most of you are aware I fix things! Here is a before and after picture of a crumbling pool lid. I whipped up a new section with H3 treated timber. A massive improvement. I’m keen if you or your family/neighbours/friends have any little jobs like this, I would love to be of assistance. Thanks

Hello everyone, hope you are well. I came across this older porcelain fuse switchboard recently. It had the “1st generation” safety switch. These started to appear in the late 80’s/early 90’s. Sure, they were an improvement from just a porcelain fuse, but they don’t last forever. This one had completely seized up and untrippable. Not only that, it had started smoking up a bit and caused an appliance damage. May I suggest you check your safety switches every now and again. The manufacturer recommends you press the “test” button monthly. Some of them even have it written on them. I realise 99.9% of the time this doesn’t happen, so now is a perfect opportunity to see if your safety switches trip correctly. If they fail to trip, your home is potentially in danger. Not only that, if you ever need to make an insurance claim, you may be knocked back if they deem you to have been negligent by allowing your home to fall to an unsafe standard. Please let me know if you need a switchboard upgrade. I can remove all your dated porcelain fuses and replace with fresh, top quality safety switches.
