I’m wrecked.
The rabbits give us beautiful meat and also feed our dogs.
The pelts will be mounted for taxidermy along with the goat.
Unfortunately the goat passed away, which I was really unhappy about, but we will make a stunning taxidermy piece full mount!
Skinning rabbits for taxidermy is slow going as paws and face need to be intact. Once skinned they go in a tanning solution for 1-2 weeks and then mounted. It’s a time consuming process, many hours of work but worth it for the end result.

Unpacking my van.
The kangaroo tail waist coat was an order I made today.
Crown is with feathers fur and goat horns available for purchase on Heidishides.com as is the Australian Fox pelt.
I had another person troll me recently as there was white fox fur and mink on my stall. These items are made from recycled fur, I cut up vintage jackets and stoles, the majority of my hats are made this way.
I also dye fur and get a range of colours.
Having said that the fox species we have in Australia is red fox from England. I spoke to a lovely man recently who’s been tanning hides for 60 years and he said the foxes have all been red except for one that was pide. Any colour variation from red is extremely rare.
Melanistic is 0.1% to 1% and albino is less than 1%. Some of the research I did said 1 in a million.
So I can safely say if you’re purchasing a Fox pelt in Australia it will be red. Any variations from this would be kept by the hunter or tanner.
