A great collection of fresh stock today with something for almost everyone. High quality German monocular scientific microscope with original case, Sylko ceramic storage unit in the shape of a large cotton reel, there’s pocket knives, hooks, brackets, a timber frame, collector cards and money, puncture repair tins, small bottles, souvenirs, a beautifully restored 1960’s Cyclops trike and the awesomely named “Aussie Thriller” whistle by Rider and Bell Sydney which was the only whistle manufacturer in the southern hemisphere! Bit of helpful trivia for you all there!

I picked up this C1915 Oak music cabinet with front lead-light infill panel during the week. Thankfully the years have been kind with only a clean, a reglue of a loose door joint and a few water mark repairs to the top required.

It includes internal shelves originally for pianola rolls or sheet music, these are independent of the cabinet and could either be reduced in number or removed all together depending on your requirements.

When I was working on it I found a cardboard tag wedged inside, the original sales tag from E.G Glass & Co, 525 George St Sydney. I looked up the business and found a photo from the 1950’s showing the now long gone premises. I really enjoy finding these little things that add to the story of the piece.

Long weekend stock update. I’ve had this old counter top display cabinet for a while, I thought it would be the perfect way to display, and make a feature of the collection of cobalt blue glass poison and medicine bottles that I recently acquired.

It needed a few new pieces of glass fitted along with a light sand and reseal, I also fitted some internal low voltage lighting to make that antique cobalt blue glass pop!

This morning started out very weirdly, I was overcome by an idea and then a burst of focus and enthusiasm, so I charged around getting everything together and headed to the shop to be productive and achieve something new and interesting!

I’ve been pondering this change for a while and today was the day! I installed a new ladder, which used to belong to my grandfather, across the two sides of my shop and hey presto something to hang some spectacular Art Deco lights from. Most of these are NOS (New Old Stock) Crown Glassware pieces,.. I’m pretty happy with how it’s turned out. Oh there’s also a rare Ivory 1954 Bakelite telephone that’s arrived today as well.

Another fresh stock alert,… brought to you by the era of Art Deco! Well some of it anyways! C1930 Art Deco standard lamp with another NOS “Crown Glassware” beehive shade, a pair of C1920 Art Deco lead light cupboard doors, C1900 NSW Railways brass “Lavatory” sign off an early NSW train, small brass engraved pill container C1870, Yashica SLR camera, an original late 18th/early 19th C steel engraving of the father of Scottish medicine Alexander Monro (1697- 1767) by A Bell, a pair of Victorian era porcelain door handles, a vintage framed Colmans Mustard sign and an original pine storage box C1900, with hand painted lettering “Valentia St Wharf” which is in Woolwich Sydney.

I may not have posted so far this week, however there’s still been lots happening! Here’s a collection of new stock that made it in this past week!

WW2 “Brodie” helmet, Danish Mid Century Hurricane lamp, small camphor wood chest, Australian coins, variety of 1950’s and 1960’s Coke bottles, brass railways rack and a great selection of Art Deco light fittings. Some of the lights are actually NOS (New Old Stock), carefully pulled out of their original 1930’s boxes and featuring their original “Crown Glassware” stickers. High quality glassware, made in Australia!

Fresh stock update,.. here’s what’s new in store; an Australian classic, Mid Century modern set of three Parker side tables - freshly cleaned, oiled, polished and ready for a new home. Art Deco light fitting, framed 1840 English cricket print, a pair of cast iron brackets, a variety of 1920’s bottles and a pair of late 19th C bear pin cushions.

Another Friyay and another load of fresh stock has arrived! An eclectic mix that will hopefully drag you in and tempt you.

Adding to the military collection there’s a great spitfire Australia map ashtray or trinket tray, a couple of ornamental brass cannons, a variety of shells and projectiles, zippo and other lighters including a very cool 1980’s Japanese made tank lighter.

I made a Mulga wood base for an aged bronze Buddha head to sit on, there’s a early 20th C Australian cedar pedestal mirror, an ornamental brass owl - hoot hoot and my favourite the industrial light on tripod, the perfect feature for the corner of any room. Except the loo maybe? 🤔

I think you’re only as good as the stock you’re able to source. When you want to create a space that makes people say “wow” and elicit positive responses and interest from people, it can be challenging when that great stock just doesn’t seem to be around.

I’ve had a few really fun weeks treasure hunting, sorry sourcing stock and have been delivering the first lot of it to the shop in the past few days.

Tied in with a reconfiguring of one of my main display cases, the new stock creates an area that’s full of military history and memorabilia. There’s a USM 1840 Cavalry Sabre, a 1796 British light Cavalry Sabre, two WW2 Lee Enfield .303 MA P1907 bayonets, a ASFA M1935 WW2 Ma**er bayonet, an original WW2 Brodie helmet complete with chin strap and liner, a 1971 Belgian tank crew leather helmet, early flying goggles, a variety of trench art shells and a large Perkins USA brass and copper ships light that casts the perfect soft subtle light.
