On the 11th of January 2011 my family bought our brand new fat wriggly little bundle of love home. An utterly delicious little blue staffy we named Igby Alouishus. The kids were 10, 5 and 2. Our gorgeous puppy was adored and treated like the king from that day forward. Dressed up in hats, tutus, crazy outfits, wrapped in blankets, wheeled around in prams. Over the years he grew into the strongest loyalist naughtiest most untrainable dog ever. He destroyed every kids toy, bike, plant, shoes anything! He ripped out the entire ducted heating system from under the house and upon repairing it he did it again less than a week later. He was allergic to bees yet spent hours eating them. He suffered such severe separation anxiety that for years we did road trips staying at dog friendly accommodation so he could holiday with us. He hated every other dog he ever met. He was obstinate, naughty and beyond neurotic. He loved walking to the kids primary school and in a sea of identically dressed little people could spot his kids in an instant. His entire body would waggle with such excitement and anticipation. Leaving him alone for even an hour would result in such pure unadulterated joy on our return. His love was fierce, pure unwavering and entirely non judgmental. He has been the backbone to our lives for so long. For months now we have all known the end has been getting closer every day. Our hearts have been slowly breaking daily- seeing his once magnificent strong body withering. His beautiful shiny coat so dull, his hearing almost gone and his powerful muscular legs unable to support him. Yesterday Igby had a seizure that left him unable to stand or even able to move. He was carried to his bed where he looked at us all with such love and beseeched us with his tired old eyes begging us to let him go.
After spending his final hours with us all telling him all that he already knew he passed last night.
Our beautiful boy. Dog heaven has gained a warrior We love you always Igby
