I have been captivated by the craftmanship of the men at the Sakai Takayuki factory. They make exceptional chef knives and I wanted to capture a moment in the extensive process in a painting. This painting shows the sharpening stage where the blade is placed on a giant rolling whetstone. The device to hold the knife seems crude but it is effective, a plain board with nails to hold the blade in place for sharpening. This is part one of a series of paintings showcasing the creation of the Sakai Takayuki Sanpou knife.

Plein air. It was mostly done in the field with finishing touches in the studio. I got to the spot and wasn't sure what to paint. I saw two rose bushes on a private property so I had to paint this from a distance to stay outside the boundary line. There are beautiful river gums in the background that I'm glad I was able to include. I enjoyed getting out into the open air and what made it even better is being able to paint under the shade of a tree for the whole session.

I had the pleasure of walking through Lightning Swamp Bushland this morning. The orchids were out and about as were a family of ducks. I left with some inspiration for a king spider orchid, which I'm working on now. I hope you are enjoying your orchid hunting.

This is one of my most recent works of art. A 76cm by 101cm mixed media piece featuring wildflowers. You might recall previous renditions of this kind of work, but those were without colour. I included colour this time and I'm pleased with the result.

I had a wonderful time at the . They had the Carrolup paintings up and some art inspired by it. The focus is heavy on the pastel paintings made by the boys, but it leaves ones wondering, what were girls doing? They were making embroidery like this remarkable piece featuring wildflowers and animals. Out of tragedy sprang beauty. I marvel at how great the artwork is that came from Carrolup from such tiny hands.
