Grief changed my capacity, so my business had to change too. 💛

I was still a mum, wife and business owner, but I didn’t have the same energy anymore.😮‍💨

I had to do less, simplify, say no more often and protect my time.

The biggest lesson?
Maintenance is still progress!

Not every season is about growth. Sometimes it’s about keeping things going while making space for life.

That isn’t falling behind. It’s adapting. 👌🏻

Grief and business are two things we rarely talk about in the same conversation. 🤷🏻‍♀️

But when you work for yourself, your business doesn’t automatically stop when your world does.

I’ve had seasons where I’ve had to carry grief, motherhood, family and business all at the same time.

It’s changed the way I believe a business should be built.

This series isn’t about pushing through grief or finding a way to be more productive through it.

It’s about the reality of running a small business in those early days and when life gets really bloody hard. 💛

You can be incredibly good at what you do at your job and still feel completely lost when it comes to business!

Being great at your job didn’t teach you how to price your offers, market yourself, find clients, make a profit or figure out what the hell you should actually be focusing on. ❌

Then throw motherhood into the mix and you’re trying to learn all of that between school runs, sick days and the mental load of keeping everyone alive. 😅

So if you’ve ever thought, “I should know what I’m doing by now” No, you weren’t taught this part!!

We have never been taught how to run businesses, ESPECIALLY while raising children and running the household. 🏠

Business is a whole new skillset you are learning.

Success looks a little different when you’re building a business alongside motherhood.

I still want the money. I still have big goals. I still want to build something I’m bloody proud of.

But I don’t need it to look impressive from the outside.

I want a business that’s profitable AND lets me do school pick-up. That gives me freedom when my kids need me. That doesn’t require me to be constantly switched on to keep it running.

And I think more founder mums are starting to feel the same.

Maybe the new flex isn’t how big we can build our businesses…

Maybe it’s how well we can build them around the lives we actually want. 💛

I went from running a successful business, to a pandemic forcing me to pivot, to restructuring… and eventually finding myself building something completely new.

And that was hard. Add in loosing multiple family members and the birth of our baby girl. Not just financially, but personally. 😕

I had to learn that my change in income was ok. That starting again didn’t erase everything I’d already achieved or learnt along the way.

Motherhood is unpredictable. 👈🏻
Life is unpredictable. 👈🏻
Business is unpredictable. 👈🏻

Sometimes the strongest thing you can do is stop clinging to what worked in your last season and build something that works for the one you’re in now. 💛
