Art by Gennifer Art is how I sing, dance and pray. Through art, I 'relive the stories and free the emotions'.

I use an eclectic assortment of materials and supports to bring my memories of people, places and events to an audience through fine art using collage and resin. As an artist I’m interested in working with a variety of media and particularly enjoy the tactile experience of collage, incorporating this into any work that will support it. I love colour and texture and often paint on heavily textured

bases. I add fabrics and threads to my art works and purposely damage my furniture pieces in order to imbed found items and add light elements. Having a history in early childhood education I have developed a love and respect for the vibrancy and simplicity of children’s art and my works often feature this naive style. The imagination and creativity of four year old children inspires me to have fun with my work. Although I am not primarily a landscape artist I also draw inspiration from the landscape works of artists such as Brett Whitely and Pro Hart. I have a strong sense of responsibility to care for our planet which has lead me to use recycled supports, frames and elements in my work. This often involves extensive preparation of the surface and I will sometimes put a prepared or partly worked project away for a period of time until it inspires me again. I also particularly enjoy salvaging old furniture and giving it a new life as practical artwork, (reimaged) often repairing items with resin, imbedding beach glass, pages from old books and even glow in the dark objects or paint into the resin. When creating a piece, I go through many complicated layering processes to ultimately produce a simple and practical final product. My aim is to produce sustainable, practical art to be used and enjoyed.

Searching for peace in a crazy world. Nearly done or at least well on the way. Almost done? At the beginning? Who knows it depends weather its a half full kind of day or half empty. I'm making a concious effort to find joy in a world gone mad. My life and art has always been focussed on belonging - for me and others that feel on the outside but can't quite explain why. These works look at memories through classic subjects and style. Something familiar but a bit more playful.

New work for an exhibition in November. I've constructed all the supports from scratch using surplus and discarded material's (step 1). The images are still life, life drawing and nature (step 2 - classic subjects). Most have their background layer (step 3). Others have the next layer that usually influences the detail or restraint in the final piece (step 4). Today I completed the first one - I hope! maybe not 🤷🏼. (Step 5). A new body of work this size usually takes me about 6 months of painting every chance I get☺️

And just like that the resin coats are done. Although my whole art practice centres around reuse, recycle, creating new from old, surplus or discarded, resin is my guilty concession. Without resin I couldn’t be sure that the final work will last, will keep its colour permanently, will resist dust, mould, even a bit of rough handling.

It feels like I have waited forever for these little oil paintings to be dry and ready to resin. You just can’t rush these things. Every day for weeks now I would bring them out and put them somewhere sheltered but still with a little sun and a little breeze. Oils dry differently to acrylic, apart from taking longer, warmth doesn’t help as much as air movement does.
