Wategos — Byron Bay, NSW

Shot from the rocks at Wategos Beach. Surfboard underarm. Morning light. The building sits there, curved and quiet, doing what it was always going to do.

Five levels stepping down the headland. Rendered balconies following the contour of the site rather than fighting it. The kind of project where the location sets every decision — orientation, scale, how much you can take before the view takes over.

Five years of collaboration, refinement, and devotion to the vision.

What began as a beautiful concept by the previous designers became something extraordinary, shaped by close collaboration between the client, builder, and interior designer at every stage.

Wak’a Designs shaped the external form of the house as it stands today, carrying the design through successive council approvals, redesigns, full construction documentation, and daily on-site collaboration with the client and builder until completion.

The result is a home that feels as good as it looks.

Curved blackbutt joinery, a hidden bar with no visible seam, and a servery window that opens the whole kitchen to the hinterland.

Pindara has taken out the 2026 Master Builders NSW Northern Excellence Award — Kitchen Projects, $75,000–$100,000.

Our Stonehenge Place project in Lennox Head is now under construction!  Designed as a family home with gathering at its heart, it unfolds into two wings, one for the children and the other a private retreat for the parents.  Nestled amongst established trees, every space is shaped to invite light and openness, balancing timeless detail with the ease of barefoot living.
