Eric picked up his HK GTS instruments, fascias and tacho yesterday. He seems happy with them.

The instrument cluster is a NOS piece that he bought. We converted it from 120-140 MPH using a NOS speedometer faceplate. The instrument was then recalibrated. The lens was badly damaged from the previous owner not storing it correctly. It took some polishing but it's fine now.

The tacho was restored using our restoration kit with new faceplate, lens, bezel and housing. It was also fitted up with a new digital circuit board compatible with HEI and points ignition.

The woodgrain inserts he purchased years ago from Paul Mason in SA (long before we started producing our own) It's nice stuff, would recommend. Paul's done a nice job on it.

We've had a bit of a run of HKTG radios lately. Morgan's HK and Darren's HG push button units here all working and looking new again.

But, we're also working on a busted HK radio that we have, grafting in a new Bluetooth amplifier. (Second picture)

We're also working on replacement speakers for original radio amps and aftermarket radio and Bluetooth amps. As usual, Darren's HG will be the test mule 😁 (along with the tail light housings)

The plan is, with a small PCB, some diodes and relays, the aftermarket stereo that he fits in the glovebox will run the speaker assembly in stereo (albeit pointless as both speakers will be slide by side in the middle of the dash so will very much sound as though it's mono, but hey) and once turned off, will switch power to the original radio and run through the same speaker assembly but in mono.

That way he'll be able to listen to his favourite radio station, Zinc FM, and hear the entire ABBA, Michael Jackson and Adele collection twice a day, every day in FM Stereo and switch to the original Air Chief AM radio to hear the Vege report, stocks and finance and his favourite talk back on the ABC in mono.
How good is that, just turn one off and the other one on and everything switches automatically 👌

Anyway, that's just a work in progress. We'll keep you updated.

(Sometimes you need to do things just to keep your sanity. Restoring the same fascias, instruments, consoles, making the same woodgrain inserts over and over, sends you a little batty. You need to do different things. They're often not needed nor required, but just because you can, you do. Our work ute is a classic example 😁)

Angelo's HK Premier was unveiled at the recent Killer Cars Melbourne event.

We've restored his fascias, instruments, k***s and fitted our HK Blackwood type woodgrain inserts.

We're doing a couple HG GTS sets of fascias, instruments and consoles for Richie at the moment. He also gave us around 1 sqm of what appears to be NOS HG Burl woodgrain vinyl 😍

But, it's pretty stuffed. It hasn't been stored well, it's dried out, the glue has shrunk creasing the vinyl. It's hard, it's brittle, well it's s**t really.

We've been waiting for weather like this to slowly heat this material in the sun. So far it's working. (The 3M material we use on our woodgrain inserts, reacts really well to a heat gun. This stuff, being probably 50-60 years old, does NOT like even gentle heat from the heat gun)

Once it semi softens, we're able to carefully, painstakingly, be able to remove the old glue. Then with some more sun baking, we can stretch it out a little, bit by bit.

So far, so good 👍 Small pieces are looking promising. Console inserts will be the biggest issue. Finding a piece of material large enough that'll soften up without hardened pieces that just crack or just won't play the game will be the biggest challenge.

Challenge accepted. I really, really want to be able to save as much of this material as possible, but fair dinkum, it is trashed.
