🌿 Compostable vs. Biodegradable: Know the Difference! 🌿

When it comes to sustainability, understanding the difference between compostable and biodegradable products can make a big impact! Here's what you need to know:

- **Compostable Products:** These break down quickly, usually within 100 to 160 days in a proper composting environment, leaving behind rich, nutrient-filled compost. Perfect for eco-friendly packaging and daily-use items like compostable bags and cutlery! 🌱

- **Biodegradable Products:** While they do break down, they can take years and don't always degrade into eco-friendly materials. This makes compostable items a more sustainable choice.

**Popular Compostable Materials:**
- **Bagasse:** A byproduct of sugarcane processing, ideal for making eco-friendly plates, bowls, and food packaging.
- **Cornstarch:** Used in producing compostable containers and shopping bags.
- **PLA Plastic:** A plant-based plastic from renewable resources like cornstarch or sugarcane, perfect for commercial composting facilities*.

*Note: There are only a relatively small number of commercial composting facilities in Australia, and that's if our PLA 'compostable' materials even make it there. Most end up in landfill and become no better than plastic alternatives. So it's best to avoid PLA.
