Hubby harvesting our Mexican Turnip (Jicama). Jicama, often referred to as the Mexican turnip or yam bean, is a starchy root vegetable native to Mexico and Central America. While it looks like a large, dusty brown potato or a turnip, its texture and flavor are much more refreshing. The plant is a vigorous vine that can grow quite large. However, it is important to note that only the root is edible. > Safety Warning: The seeds, leaves, and pods of the jicama plant contain rotenone, a natural insecticide that is toxic to humans and animals. Always discard everything except the tuber. β€οΈ
