My Story so far...
I have always had a bit of a creative flair, enjoying visual arts and woodwork throughout my school years, then onto studying Design fundamentals and Interior Design. Over the years I’ve dabbled in a few crafts as hobbies from home, but nothing has really stuck. It wasn’t until I was a stay at home mum with my daughter Amelia and son Beau, and inspired by the beautiful macrame jewellery that my younger sister was making, that I began to look at macrame online and found a few tutorials that taught me the basics. I discovered a love of a craft that fit into my lifestyle so well. Being able to work on something while watching the kids play, easily move my work around the house and put time into making something in the pockets of time you get as a busy mum, worked so well for me. It is also such a therapeutic activity and as any mum of young children would understand, we all need something to bring us back to calm - it helps me to be a better mother, a better wife and feeds my passion and love of creating something special and unique.
I began making plant hangers several years ago and started working the odd market stall to sell them. I made a few wall hangings and realised that I loved making these even more than the plant hangers! As much as I loved working on my macrame, it didn’t last long as I started back at work and everything was packed up and stored in the garage, along with the other crafts that I dabbled in.
My passion and excitement for the Macrame craft was fired up again when I stepped into the InStyle Expo in Sydney and was surrounded by stands full of beautiful homewares and lifestyle products. Looking around, there was not a single stand selling Macrame Wall Hangings and I thought that they would be perfectly suited to the vibe of this expo. That day, I felt a fire in my belly that urged me to start creating again. I went straight home to start a new wall hanging and realised just how important it was for my own wellbeing, to put time into something that brought me joy and a sense of calm that I hadn’t felt in a long time.
We all try and to be the best we can be in all areas of our life, but it can be so overwhelming at times. To discover a craft that makes me feel so good, that relaxes me, that satisfies my desire to create, that gives me a sense of accomplishment has been incredible. Even though I am just starting out, I am learning everyday and am constantly inspired be the beautiful work by so many other macrame makers. I hope to build on my skills and continue to create beautiful pieces moving forward, that will hang in the homes of others, bringing warmth and beauty to their space.
