Torbay Pottery We create functional and beautiful pottery pieces in Albany Western Australia. Your unique item can be made to order becoming part of your home.

Wonky Pot Pottery, Torbay Western Australia, was named by our son using the ‘wonky pot’ on the bench. This was a wheel thrown then altered large open bowl that was waiting to go out to the Oranje Tractor Winery for display and sale. After much laughter the name stuck! Pottery was something I had always dreamed of doing. A cancer journey meant early retirement and a change in direction with my life. I found peace and a sense of achievement when working with clay. David was soon caught in the spell of working with clay too, to take wet earth and create an object of simple elegant form that is functional but beautiful too. For now our passion is for wheel thrown pieces of functional ware. To be used and enjoyed. We regularly make items such as bowls of every size, jugs and pouring batter bowls, platters, mugs and accessories. A new item that races out the door as fast as they are made are Yarn or Knitting bowls, your ball of wool sits inside and the thread runs out through either a hole or a slot. I have worked with many of our new friends to create colourful and individual designs that were given as special and unique gifts. We welcome custom design enquiries across our range. Bendigo Bank Great Southern Art Trail 2013 was our first exhibition with our pottery followed by 2014, held at the Oranje Tractor Winery in their newly expanded Cellar Door and Café area. David demonstrated on the wheel most days, (which was amazingly helpful for new stock for the markets) and I demonstrated decorating and design styles. Pam and Murray have the best coffee and food, in the loveliest Organic Gardens around! Our page will help you keep up with the latest happenings and which markets we will next be travelling to. In the development of our business we will be looking to expand into online markets and eventually a webpage of our own. But our core focus will remain the challenge and satisfaction of making quality pottery, continually learning and experimenting. We love that our pottery becomes part of peoples homes and lives, the joy of knowing that our work has been chosen with care as a gift for someone they love or a piece they have bought for themselves. It is why presenting our pottery at Markets is an important part of the process, in development of styles and designs, and getting to know who our customers are and what will suit their needs the best.

I managed to tuck a few cuddly round mugs into my last gas kiln firing before we left the Torbay Property. So theres just a few added on the shelves with some lovely crystal formations in the overlap area of the glazes. I have everything crossed that the new kiln will also have some nice results. It’s starting to look a lot more organised in Studio 3 at the Albany Business Centre, and I am enjoying hanging out there working in the mud again. Classes have started again, (Thursdays still available) and I have a lovely couple coming for a Special Custom Private Workshop today. If you have a bit of spare time late mornings and around midday, it’s a fairly safe bet that you might find me in there pottering around most days. Message me and let me know you are coming and I can have the kettle nice and warm! Vicki

For all my recent Workshop Participants!! Somehow I managed one last minute firing before leaving the old studio, and the results were awesome! While I get the new kiln all connected, we can crack on creating more pottery knowing that all works are up to date and waiting for their owners. Come and share some organisation energy with me! I can even put on the kettle and crack a pack of biscuits if you want to roll up your sleeves lol. :D

The things you discover when you pack up! I had safely boxed up, and set aside these garden bells ages ago. There is even a lovely stack of leaves underneath to go with them! It has been a crazy year to find time to string them, a more time consuming task than you would imagine. Time to get them finished, hmmm, now I wonder in which of all the crates they may be??? 🤣

We are finally there, last day and it’s so bittersweet. I am proud to hand our spaces on to a new steward who will create his own memories and make it his own. But I will miss the birds who all came to say goodbye yesterday while cleaning. There is an unbelievable amount of stuff, yes potters tend to be hoarders, to reorganise, but I am excited to see routine and classes beginning at Studio 3. at the Albany Business centre. lol I am going to be there a lot over coming weeks, so it’s worth popping by and see what I’m up to. Or bring tissues!

A lovely young man came for a visit to create his own coffee mug. I think this is where my obsession with the hand built mugs started lol. A week of packing up home base left, so with visitors and the kiln running for the last bisque here, Studio 3 is closed today. Have a safe and lovely long weekend and may your fave team win the grand final!

Student bottle in my Tenmoku glaze. I changed iron oxide in the last mix and now get this gorgeous almost black with a touch of bronze on the rims. Please let it fire just as well in the electric kiln! Agnete starts her beginner class 10th October, and would love to have someone share the class with her. I will be messaging the waiting list today, but a Saturday class suits you, please let me know asap. :D Remember that class size is maximum of two so lots of one to one help. More shuffling of Studio 3 today, so if you would like to come and encourage me, 11 to 1pm.

16 lovely parcels of pottery, sitting in the sun waiting for collection. If you could see behind the camera, you would see chaos and my attempting to put two studios into one. Please please come for a drive and enjoy the sunshine as you come collect. I have Leuca, Sandy, Tanya, Shannon, Mel, Sarah, Sara, Felicity, Fiona, Nicole, Jodie, Jo, Peta, Annika and Rachael. Space is scarce and I would hate to have any parcels damaged. See you soon, Vicki 😀🙏

The packing up of Home Studio is continuing, but though quiet on here, I had to share the recent Mug Workshop results and let you lucky ladies (you know who you are ;) ) know that they are safely in Studio 3. Every one of them is going to be a joy to use! I have one spot available in this Sundays doughnut and clay afternoon workshop, if you might like to make your own? Hehe, that is as long as I can find the tables and floors again? It looks a bit scary in Studio 3 at the minute. :D
