It’s hard to put into words what this little shop has meant to us.
First and foremost, thank you to everyone who supported us and helped make this store what it became. Especially Alex (aka the paid social media girly, hi what’s up), and our volunteers turned friends, Maddie and Elena. This place would not have been the same without you.
To every person who walked through our doors, thank you. The vast majority of you were kind, thoughtful, funny, curious, and genuinely wonderful people. To our regulars and consignors, who we are still continuing business with, your visits, conversations, stories, and friendships meant more to us than you probably realise, both personally and professionally.
Alley Cat Trading was always meant to be more than just a retail store. We wanted it to feel like an old shopkeeper experience, the kind that feels increasingly rare now. A place built around history, connection, conversation, and second chances. Not just for old and new items finding another life, but for people too.
So many customers told us the shop felt calming, comforting, and peaceful, somewhere they wanted to stay longer than they planned because it felt different from most retail spaces. Hearing that always meant the world to us because that feeling was exactly what we hoped to create.
We loved the stories shared with us, the memories sparked by objects on shelves, the random chats that turned into friendships, and the familiar faces that kept coming back through the door.
It is with great difficulty and sadness that we’ve had to close the shop. But we are incredibly grateful for every person who helped shape this strange little space into something meaningful.
While this is the end of a chapter for Alley Cat Trading, it is not the end of everything. The friendships, memories, stories, and connections made here will continue far beyond the walls of the shop, and we hope to still run into many of you somewhere else down the track.
Thank you for being part of it ❤️
