Here are some process shots from the studio of a recent piece I’ve been working on. Over the past few weeks I’ve been spending time contemplating local landscapes, reducing them to what feels essential. Stripped back they become quieter, more isolated yet still familiar.

Drawing is how I make sense of what I see, so I’ve been exploring ways of keeping those first observations present within the finished painting rather than covering them over. Transparent layers of oil paint add atmosphere and colour while allowing the drawing to remain visible—a record of that initial act of looking.

I’m becoming increasingly interested in painting that reveals its own history of making, where drawing and painting exist together rather than one replacing the other. I’ve enjoyed exploring this idea and can’t wait to create some more soon.

Lately I’ve been spending hours drawing. Repeating the same marks over and over, following the grain, the splits and the weathering.

It’s the kind of work that asks for me to be patient. Somewhere in that repetition, thought quietens down and the drawing takes over. One line becomes another and before long I’ve lost track of time.

It’s one of the things I love most about drawing, the way it makes me slow down and really look.

I delivered “Highground” to its new home.

I was able to see the painting hanging amongst a carefully considered home collection. Each work carrying its own story and significance was a reminder to me that artworks continue living long after they leave the studio.

A quiet kind of joy.

Very grateful this piece found such a thoughtful home with a wonderful repeat collector x

This is pretty big, thrilling and full of cartwheel feelings to be part of the Dobell Drawing Prize tour this year. To be showing amongst amazing contemporary Australian artist that I greatly admire is next level.
My piece ‘Scar & Ruby’ began a ride I’m still on, a way for me to see them separate from the noise and chaos of everyday.
Drawing has been a love of mine since I can remember and helps me understand and explore the little and big things. It is amazing that that this piece in particular, the one that started my series, gets to be seen in all of these amazing regional galleries.

A quiet piece, a quiet moment and some very good news.

‘Seated Figure’ has been selected as a finalist in the 2026 Muswellbrook Art Prize (Works on Paper).

Drawing for me is a slow act of attention. Allowing stillness, shadow and negative space to hold presence without explanation. I’m grateful and super thrilled the work will sit within this year’s exhibition.

Thank you to the selection panel and to judge Scott Elliott, Assistant Curator of Australian Art at the Art Gallery of NSW.

The exhibition opens 21 March at Muswellbrook Regional Arts Centre.
