Downsizing doesn’t mean leaving your story behind.

Some of the most beautiful homes are the ones that thoughtfully combine treasured older pieces with carefully selected new ones. A favourite armchair, an antique chest, meaningful artworks or inherited furniture can bring warmth, character and soul to a new apartment, but making them work in a smaller space takes careful planning.

Scale becomes incredibly important when downsizing. Pieces that worked beautifully in a large family home can suddenly feel oversized or visually heavy in an apartment if they’re not balanced correctly. Sometimes it’s about finding a better location for a special item, and sometimes it’s about surrounding it with lighter, simpler pieces that allow it to shine.

This is where good design instinct really matters. The goal is never to make your home feel like a showroom. It’s to create a space that feels layered, personal and reflective of your life, while still functioning beautifully for the way you live now.

I love helping clients edit thoughtfully, preserve what matters most and create homes that feel elegant, calm and deeply personal.

Design inspiration doesn’t just happen behind a desk.

In a few days, I’ll be heading to Europe, including a visit to Copenhagen for 3DaysofDesign, one of the world’s most influential design festivals. For three days, the city becomes a showcase of the latest thinking in interiors, furniture, lighting, materials and how we live in our homes.

One of the things I love most about interior design is that there is always something new to learn. New products, new ideas, new ways of solving old problems. While trends come and go, great design is constantly evolving, and I believe it’s important to stay curious and connected to what’s happening beyond our shores.

I’ll be spending time exploring showrooms, exhibitions and installations, meeting suppliers and immersing myself in some of the best design thinking in the world. I’m sure I’ll return with plenty of ideas, inspiration and insights to share with my clients.

If you’ve ever wondered where designers find inspiration, this is part of the answer.

I’ll be sharing plenty of highlights along the way, so follow along if you’d like a glimpse inside one of the world’s great design events.

You didn’t land here by accident. Hit follow and stay for a while!

When people think about creating interest in a home, they often jump straight to colour. But texture can be just as important.

Rough stone, soft boucle, woven linens, warm timber, polished metal, tactile ceramics, plush wool rugs… texture is what gives a space depth, warmth and personality. It’s the layer that makes a room feel inviting rather than flat.

Some textures feel cosy and calming, others feel crisp, sculptural or dramatic. The magic happens when they’re thoughtfully layered together to create balance and contrast.
In downsized homes and apartments especially, texture plays a huge role. When space is more compact, every material choice matters and those subtle layers help a home feel rich, sophisticated and deeply considered.

Which texture are you most drawn to right now?
