A Tribute (*Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un.*)
*Some people deliver food. Some people deliver on their promise.*
Today, we want to remember a man who did exactly that.
For Chomchom's Wok, every meal that reaches a customer has many people behind it. People who supply, cook, pack, check, dispatch—and the riders who take that meal onto the streets of Dhaka, through traffic, rain, heat, delays & every uncertainty that comes with the road.
*Without them, we simply cannot keep our promises.*
There are difficult experiences and darker sides to the delivery profession too. But today is not about any of that.
*Today is about an exceptional man.*
*Saiful Bhai.*
He was one of those riders we could rely on. He would travel great distances, take difficult routes & regardless of the circumstances, make sure the delivery was completed.
He didn't simply carry our meals.
*He carried our responsibility to our customers.*
Last Wednesday, Saiful Bhai completed his afternoon shift and was waiting for his next delivery for the evening.
At around 4:00 PM, while he was in the vicinity of Labaid Hospital, he went into a toilet.
*He never came out.*
A little later, when our team tried reaching him for his evening delivery, he wasn't answering his phone. Naturally, we became worried. Not knowing what had happened, we arranged alternate riders so that we could still fulfil our commitment to our customers.
It was only later that evening that we learned the heartbreaking truth.
*Saiful Bhai had passed away.*
The police were called & the door was eventually opened. He was found unconscious and was pronounced dead. Because of the circumstances in which he was found, a post-mortem examination was required and was conducted almost 24 hours later. We were told that he had passed away from a heart attack. Later, his body was taken to his village where he was buried.
It is difficult to process that a man who had just completed his afternoon shift, who was waiting for his next delivery, and who was preparing to get back on his bike and continue his work was suddenly gone.
And perhaps the most heartbreaking part for us is that the *last words our dispatch team heard from him were:*
*“SKS ta diye den, taratari hobe.”*
Just an ordinary sentence from a man preparing to do what he had done countless times before.
Neither he nor anyone around him could have known that those would be the last words we would ever hear from him.
*That is how suddenly life can change.*
Saiful Bhai leaves behind his wife and daughter.
Some of you may have spoken to him. Some of you may have seen him arrive at your doorstep. Some of you may have interacted with him without ever knowing his name.
But people like Saiful Bhai quietly become part of our everyday lives.
Every meal that arrives on time has a person behind it.
Every promise of delivery has a person carrying that promise.
*They ride when we cannot. They travel when we cannot. They face the road so that we can keep our promises.*
Sometimes, we only realize how much someone mattered when they are no longer there.
*Saiful Bhai, thank you.*
Thank you for every kilometre you travelled.
Thank you for every difficult delivery you completed.
Thank you for every time you helped us keep our promise to our customers.
*You were not just a rider to us.*
*You were part of the Chomchom’s Wok family.*
May Allah forgive your shortcomings, accept your good deeds, grant you Jannatul Firdaus, and give strength, sabr & comfort to your wife, daughter & everyone who loved you.
You spent your days making sure things reached where they were supposed to.
*May you now reach a place of peace.*
You will be remembered.
