Bangladesh Approves Draft to Abolish RAB, Form SRB

The government has given final approval to a draft law proposing the abolition of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and the formation of a new specialised police unit, the Special Response Battalion (SRB).

The proposed law would transfer RAB personnel, powers, assets and records to the SRB, while introducing a multi-party committee to address public and internal complaints.

The draft will now undergo legislative vetting before the law is finalised.
