Hello 3️⃣2️⃣ ✨🥳

Yesterday was my birthday and marked my 32 trip around the sun. As is tradition for many people on their birthday, I took a bit of time to reflect on the last few years and appreciate where I am now.

I woke up yesterday healthy and strong and was able to start my celebrations with a workout. I love movement in any form and I feel extra grateful to be able to do it every day as my job. A BIG thank you to all my students and clients for sharing this joy with me each day 🥰

Brussels, you are the last place I would have thought to have chosen to live, but I’m so glad I’m here now. The close-knit group of friends I have here and the inspiring community of clients and colleagues I work with here have made this city home 🏡
Also, thank you for the sunshine yesterday, that was a fabulous birthday present.

I am loving my 30s so far and cannot wait to see what the next decades have in store.
Onwards and upwards, my friends 💃🏻

Ally

The hidden €5,000 cost of freelancing in Belgium

Full video on YouTube: Alexandra Templeton

If you want to become a freelancer in Belgium, the process can feel incredibly confusing- especially if you didn’t grow up with the Belgian system.

You’ll hear about business numbers, VAT registration, and social insurance funds, but almost nobody explains how it all actually fits together. I went through this process myself when I started freelancing here back in 2020, so in this video I’m going to walk you through the exact steps to becoming a freelancer in Belgium in 2026—and some mistakes you’ll want to avoid.

A bit of what training has looked like recently

Happy Friday, friends! I hope that you all had a nice week, and if you are in Brussels that you found some time to soak up the sun that we were blessed with 🌞

For the last few weeks, I have really enjoyed my workouts. It has been a nice balance of weight training, calisthenics and flexibility that make me look forward to each session.

Resistance training is a constant. I lift weights 3-5x per week because it makes me feel great and allows me to do every day activities with ease. Building muscle and strength will be a forever goal and I hope to continue lifting well into my golden years.

Calisthenics training just feels like playtime. Monkeying around on the bars (whether on a pull-up bar, dip bars, or parallel bars on the floor) reminds me of when I was a kid on the playground. It’s my time to experiment, disconnect from the day, and just enjoy what my body can do.

And lastly, flexibility training keeps my body supple and reminds me to slow down. It’s very difficult, and dangerous, to push the body into deep ranges of motion quickly. So, if we want to avoid injury and continue to make progress, we must move with control and pay attention to the breath. And I’ve found this practice has application outside of the gym as well :) A win-win.

What about you? What kind of workouts are you enjoying at the moment?
I’d love to hear down below :)

Alexandra

Getting set up as a freelancer in Belgium is one thing, figuring out how it all works after that is another. Between VAT rules, required insurance, and sick leave, things get confusing fast.

I went through this myself after getting started back in 2020. So in this video I’ll break down how VAT actually works, what insurance you need, and what you can expect in terms of benefits in 2026. By the end, you’ll be navigating the Belgian system like a pro.

Kindness > Niceness

This is an excerpt from my newest YouTube video “3 American habits I quit living in Europe.” In it, I take some time to express appreciation for Slavic kindness. A no-nonsense way of communicating that may sting in the moment, but also keeps relationships honest and real.

In 2015 I spent nearly 3 months living in Russia. I went to study the language and have really fond memories of my time there. I had my 21st birthday in Saint Petersburg during White Nights and while I can’t remember all of it, the parts that I do were epic 😜

Later that year I moved to Prague for what was supposed to be a one year teaching job. I quickly met Rob, my Czech Airbnb host, fell madly in love, and the rest is history. 11 years, a marriage and many apartments later, Slavic culture and humor have carved out a special part of my life.

And I wouldn’t have it any other way 🤗

3 American Habits I Quit Living in Europe

Full video now live on YouTube: Alexandra Templeton
(link in bio)

There are a few habits I learned growing up in the U.S. that I genuinely thought were positive. But living abroad gave me just enough distance to see it clearly: some of these habits were working against me.

So in this video, I want to share three American habits I carried with me,
and how living in Europe completely changed the way I see them.

If you’ve ever lived abroad, or just away from your home town, you might have noticed something similar.

I’d be curious what habits you’ve rethought over time. Let me know with a comment below!

Injured in Belgium?

Here’s the whole timeline of what you can expect while being treated in Belgium. A big thank you to .physio for taking the time to come on and explain the process. Understanding how things work saves us time and money, so it’s worth taking the time to learn the ropes of the system.

This clip is excerpted from the full video (How Much Does it Cost to Have a Baby in Belgium?) which you can find over on my YouTube channel linked in my bio.
