A new chapter. Meet Keep & Kin. 💛

After a lot of conversations, rejected names and “no, that still isn’t it” moments, Oh So Vintage is becoming Keep & Kin.

What began as me selling vintage finds has grown into something Cedric and I very much do together — sourcing across Belgium, France and beyond, and sending the pieces we find to homes around the world.

We wanted a name that reflected the way we think about antiques: objects we keep, care for and eventually pass on.

✨ Keep — for the pieces worth holding onto and carrying forward.

✨ Kin — for the people, places and stories they connect along the way.

Our name and branding are changing, and a new website will follow, but everything behind the shop remains the same: different periods, different places, the refined alongside the unusual, and a firm belief that the most interesting homes are collected over time.

🇧🇪 One of Belgium's best-kept flea market secrets?

Kemmel.

This was our second year sourcing at this enormous 1,200+ stall market in the West Flemish countryside, and once again, it did not disappoint.

We arrived around 6am, flashlights in hand, and spent the next several hours working our way through Belgian and French antique dealers, local sellers and what felt like an endless supply of small vintage furniture.

And the prices? Refreshingly reasonable.

I came home with two pieces that had been sitting on my personal wish list: an onyx and brass floor lamp for an unbelievable €15 and an early 19th-century wooden rocking horse that will eventually be taking pride of place beside my Christmas tree.

There was also a 19th-century papier-mâché folding table, atmospheric church lighting and enough other pieces to require some fairly advanced Tetris skills to get everything into the car.

Kemmel usually coincides with the Lille Braderie, so I think it gets somewhat overshadowed by its much more famous neighbour across the French border. Having attended Lille on Saturday and Kemmel on Sunday this year, though, the difference couldn't have been more noticeable.

Kemmel gave us the space to actually browse, inspect pieces, talk to dealers and negotiate — without feeling like we were constantly being swept along by the crowd.

It's still wonderfully local, too. You'll hear the occasional British accent (and this year I even heard an American one), but for the most part this remains a Belgian market catering to Belgian and French buyers.

Which is perhaps why I'm slightly conflicted about telling the internet about it. 😂

I'm probably going to get myself in trouble with this one. 👀

The Lille Braderie has become the European flea market on social media. And after years of sourcing antiques at markets across Belgium and Northern France, I finally went to see what all the fuss was about.

Lille is only around a 30-minute drive from where I live, so I'm very glad I experienced it.
Would I go back specifically to source inventory for my antique business?

Probably not.

The prices, quality-to-price ratio, crowds and logistics simply didn't compare favourably with many of the markets I'm used to attending in Belgium.

But something else I hadn't anticipated was how difficult the sheer busyness makes the actual process of sourcing.

I don't want to make a snap decision about an antique because hundreds of people are trying to squeeze past me. I want to inspect it, consider its condition, talk to the vendor and decide whether the price makes sense. Those conversations with sellers are also one of my favourite parts of going to markets — and they're much harder to have when everyone is under pressure to keep moving.

And I think that's an important distinction because there's a big difference between visiting Lille for the experience and spending potentially thousands travelling internationally because social media has convinced you it's the place to source European antiques.

It isn't.

There are incredible brocantes, flea markets and specialist antique fairs all over Europe — including plenty in France.

Do your research based on what you actually want to find, rather than assuming the biggest and most famous market will automatically be the best.
Because when it comes to antiques, bigger definitely doesn't always mean better.

Never have I ever… European antique dealer edition 👀🥂

A completely hypothetical list of things that I definitely haven’t personally done…

Pretended not to be interested before asking the price? Never.

Bought something because “my husband can fix that”? Absolutely not.

Rearranged my house to accommodate an antique I didn’t need? Couldn’t be me.

Silently assessed which family antiques I’d quite like left to me in the will? I have no idea what you’re talking about.

Anyway… how many did you get? 😂

And give me your best antique/vintage “Never Have I Ever” in the comments — the more unhinged the better. I feel like we need a Part II.

✨ JULY SALES RECAP ✨ Better late than never!

July was our strongest month so far this year, both in terms of revenue and the number of items sold — with pieces heading off to new homes across Europe, Australia, Canada and the U.S.

Looking back at what sold, two themes really stood out to me:

1. Small furniture continues to do incredibly well, particularly stools and side tables.

2. Hollywood Regency and Coastal décor were especially strong — something I'll definitely be keeping in mind when sourcing over the next few months.

Q3 tends to have a reputation for being a slower period for online retail, but July was a nice reminder that this isn't always the case.

One of my favourite parts of selling vintage and antiques is actually talking to customers. People often open up about why they've bought something — whether it's a gift, something they've been searching for for years, or simply how they plan to use it in their home.

One customer told me they were going to use a vintage toast rack as a mobile phone caddy, which I thought was rather clever.

These little insights are genuinely useful as a seller. They help me understand how people are searching for and using vintage pieces in ways I might not have considered myself, which in turn helps me fine-tune the SEO in my listings.

But beyond the business side of it, it's also just nice to know where these things end up.

When you've sourced, cleaned, photographed, researched and lived alongside an object for a while, you do become its temporary custodian. Knowing a little about how it will live beyond you is one of the lovelier parts of selling old things. 💚

✨ FOR SALE ✨ Vintage Oil Portrait of a Young Woman ✨

A beautifully romantic vintage oil portrait depicting an elegantly dressed young woman in a soft blue ruffled gown, adorned with delicate pink roses.

Signed “Tom”, the portrait has that wonderfully moody quality I’m always drawn to — a dark background, expressive brushwork and a sitter who looks like she has absolutely no interest in explaining herself to you.

The ornate gilt frame really makes this one. With its scrolling Rococo-inspired decoration and naturally aged finish, it gives the relatively small portrait far more presence on the wall.

Likely mid-century European, with the artist currently unidentified.

Good vintage condition. The frame has age-related rubbing, small chips and some losses to the gilt and moulded decoration, particularly along the upper edge. Ready to hang.

✨ FOR SALE ✨ Antique Baroque Revival Brass Table Lamp ✨

The statement piece of the Parlour Songs Collection 🎶

Dating to around 1930–1940, this spectacular Continental European table lamp has a substantial cast brass base decorated with winged cherub masks, scrolling acanthus ornament and paw feet, rising into an elaborate turned stem with a beautiful spiral baluster.

And then there’s the shade. 🤌

The later vintage empire shade isn't original to the lamp, but its pleated ivory fabric and dramatic fringe could not be a better match. When illuminated, it gives off the loveliest warm, soft glow and turns the whole thing into pure old-world parlour drama.

Most likely Belgian or French, this is not a shy little lamp. It's ornate, slightly ridiculous, and exactly why I love it.

✨ FOR SALE ✨ Vintage Patinated Bronze Musician Sculptures ✨

A beautifully sculpted pair of vintage musician figures, likely dating from the 1940s–1960s, depicting a young flautist and recorder player caught mid-performance.

Cast in patinated bronze with polished gold-toned highlights, they have the most gorgeous contrast between the deep warm brown patina and brighter faces, hands and legs. Each stands on a substantial stepped circular plinth, giving them plenty of presence despite their relatively compact size.

I love these as a pair on either side of a stack of books, on a mantel, or displayed in a music room or library.
