✨ WHAT SOLD IN MAY ✨

May was a month of surprises.

Pieces found new homes across the USA, Canada, Australia, and two new EU countries that I can now proudly add to my growing map of where I've sold to. Every order still gives me a little thrill, knowing that treasures sourced from Belgian flea markets are ending up in homes all over the world.

One thing I noticed this month is that many of these sales came from older stock that had been sitting in my shop for quite some time. It's been a humbling reminder of how much I've learned since starting this journey last year. Looking back at some of my early listings, I can clearly see the difference that better photography, stronger staging, improved lighting, the right backdrop, and a decent camera can make.

What sold was wonderfully eclectic too — from small furniture pieces and ormolu jewellery caskets to ironstone, duck-themed treasures, and mid-century glass. Proof that vintage collectors are every bit as diverse as the objects they love.

A wonderfully atmospheric French jewellery casket dating to the Belle Époque period, circa 1890–1910. Raised on elegant cabriole legs and richly decorated with winged griffin motifs, scrolling ornament, and neoclassical detailing, it captures the romance and theatricality that defined French decorative arts at the turn of the century.

The lid is centred by a striking portrait medallion depicting a classical female figure in profile, lending the piece a distinctly Symbolist and Art Nouveau character. Decorative female allegories such as these were highly fashionable during the Belle Époque, appearing across jewellery, sculpture, furniture, and decorative objects.

Opening the casket reveals its original tufted olive-gold silk interior, complete with padded lid and base. Beautifully timeworn and full of character, it remains a charming home for jewellery, keepsakes, letters, and treasured small objects.

What frustrates me isn't that these pieces exist. If someone wants to buy a modern decorative item from Temu, that's entirely their choice.

What concerns me is when mass-produced goods are presented alongside genuine vintage without clear distinction.

At the same time, there are hundreds of beautiful authentic vintage pieces already available from collectors, dealers and small businesses.
Why add to overconsumption and environmentally harmful mass production when you can give a pre-existing piece a second life?

Vintage is one of the most sustainable ways to decorate a home. Every piece purchased is one less newly manufactured item entering the world.
