Leka is not just the name of this series.
Leka was my childhood name. It’s what my grandmother called me when I was little.
Many years later, it became part of the name Leka Potoroka — and later, the name of a series of my smallest wooden dolls.
Each Leka is only 5 cm tall. I make them one at a time, usually just one each month. Each one has her own number and birthday, and comes in a little box made especially for her.

“I’d never have known they were wood.”
I hear this quite often about my characters.
I think the careful sanding and delicate painting change the way the wood looks. But when you see them up close, the natural grain is still visible.
And that’s important to me. I want the wood to remain part of the character, rather than disappear completely under the paint. ♥️
