Lets talk about the importance of sustainability and environmental responsibility when hosting global sporting events like the World Athletics Relays Gaborone 2026.
While major events can often leave behind pollution and environmental strain, Botswana is taking a different approach 🇧🇼 from cleanup campaigns around venues, to clean air initiatives, and tree-planting efforts aimed at leaving a positive, lasting impact.
This is about more than just running it’s about building a cleaner, safer environment for everyone.

Lets unpack the role of social media influencers in major events like the World Athletics Relays Gaborone 2026.

We discuss why, at times, creators may choose to forgo their fees for the greater good because moments like these create long-term opportunities for the entire nation. As the first African country to host the World Relays, this is more than an event; it’s a moment of pride for Botswana 🇧🇼

Sometimes, contributing pro bono isn’t a loss it’s an investment in something bigger.

Batswana Betso, did you know?
The Local Organising Committee behind the World Athletics Relays Gaborone 2026 worked largely on a pro bono basis. Worked with little to no pay,

Professor Martin Mokgwathi, Chairperson of the LOC, explains that due to limited funding, the executive committee only received sitting allowances and did not take payment for the work they put in. Many of the staff were drawn from government institutions, the private sector, and volunteers, all contributing with minimal pay.

Yet despite these constraints, we delivered a world-class event right here in Gaborone 🇧🇼

Professor Martin Mokgwathi, Chairperson of the Local Organising Committee for the Debswana World Athletics Relays Gaborone 2026, opens up about the challenges behind hosting a global event of this scale.
From public concerns around limited marketing to the reality of delayed sponsorships, Professor Mokgwathi explains how resource constraints shaped the rollout and how, despite late sponsor commitments, the team successfully delivered a historic event right here in Gaborone.

Batswana betso, Let’s all do our part to keep our National Stadium clean 🇧🇼

As you leave, please pick up any litter and use the bins provided. Let’s show the world that Botswana is a clean, disciplined nation, just like we’ve seen at global events where fans take pride in cleaning up after themselves.

The Debswana World Relays have a Clean Air and Clean-Up campaign, with separate bins for tins, bottles, and general waste providen in please use them.

Blue For TIN
Yellow for Bottles
Black for general waste

We dont need to wait for volunteers and ushers to clean up we can make things easy for them and do our part by not littering,
P**a! 🙌🏽

World Relays camera check 🎥🔥

This footage was shot two days ago as the broadcast team from World Athletics arrived in Botswana to prepare for today’s event. The World Relays are happening now, and you can catch the live stream on the official World Athletics page.

One of the standout innovations at the Debswana Diamond CompanyDebswana World Athletics Relays Gaborone 2026 is the Uni-One a futuristic mobility device being used for live broadcasting.
Deployed on the infield at the National Stadium, it’s part of a 21-camera network feeding the outside broadcast (OB) trucks for global coverage. It allows camera operators to capture smooth, high-definition footage while moving alongside athletes, giving viewers dynamic track-level angles like never before.

Developed by Chinese engineers, the Uni-One is a mix of a Segway, electric wheelchair, and next-generation transport device. It combines stability, agility, and silent electric motion, allowing operators to glide across the field without disrupting the race.
Equipped with broadcast-grade cameras, it delivers stable 4K/HD footage even during high-speed sprints and relay exchanges.

Its use here in Gaborone marks one of its first appearances at a World Athletics event showcasing how innovation and global partnerships are elevating Botswana’s ability to host world-class competitions.
