👋🏻Hey you roasting that veg, baking that chicken, cooking those grains. Next time you do it, make double and make yourself some nourishing meals for lunch or dinner for a busy evening. Start there!

🔥Hot tip: Always cook a neutral protein, you can add flavour with veg. That way you can add it to anything!

My first lunch ever packed for Cedar. Maybe I’m new to it but I enjoyed filling up the bento spaces in her .
I will figure out how much she eats but I kept thinking it wasn’t enough. ☺️

Here’s what’s inside:
•GF sandwich (last nights pulled pork from )
•carrots and cukes from .farm
•organic unsulphured apricots (her fave)
•granola bar
•organic apple sauce with flax seeds
•blueberry smoothie (not in picture)

Any lunch packing tips are welcome below.👇🏻❤️

Clear and crisp before the ferment! What is the difference between fermented and picked-pickles?

Fermented pickles is considered a wild ferment, you mix a brine of salt and water and let the wild bacteria (specifically lactic acid bacteria) that is on the vegetables turn into a probiotic food! The salt and lactic acid creates an environment where mold and problematic bacteria can’t exist.

To pickle foods you make a brine of vinegar, salt, sugar and water. The brine is then boiled and poured over the pickles (killing both the good and bad bacteria) and preserving the food.

This jar will become very cloudy once it ferments. That liquid is gold.

I choose to ferment the pickles because it’s healthy and super easy. Stay tuned for a quick demo on how to make fermented pickles.

Reduce edible food waste and use your carrot greens!! They are such a refreshing green and can be used like parsley in a tabouli or throw them into a pesto. I used my pesto recipe in a few posts back and combined half basil and half carrot greens. Then froze the pesto in ice cube trays. 🤟🏻🥕 Carrots lovingly grown by .farm

There was a horrific hate crime in one of our favourite parks in Collingwood, Sunset Park. The playground was spray painted and covered in words of racism, homophobia and violence. Some directed towards children. Let’s join together tomorrow and show our children and community the power of love, strength and support and to also accept that we have a long way to go and so much to learn.

Fermented. Living. Local. Organic. Asparagus.
Food alchemy at its finest. This takes health and food preservation to a whole new level. All you need to do is pour a brine (salt and water mixture) over your favourite vegetables, fruits and herbs to create amazing new flavours and cultivate beneficial bacteria! This mixture was asparagus, garlic and lemon peel. 🍋🧄💚
