Last week I put up a picture of a shelf I built because I didn't want to be outdone by a sassy American. God knows I love him, but my vanity just wouldn't allow it.

Now it's his turn, here's 1/2 of a set of vanity's he built (Would you classify this as a vanity??) What can I say, his router game is way strong. It's fancy. Which is how it should be because they were going to a couple of fancy ladies.

I'm still claiming bragging rights on those metal straps along the bottom though. You'd think the "P" would stand for "The Parlour", but it actually stands for "Positively the greatest country on earth, God bless Canada, our True North Strong & Free"

Happy Valentines friends! If you're not feeling the love today then watch this video and remember that somebody somewhere loves you. We will return to our regular programming tomorrow (or Monday... Or whenever I feel like it really)

Cheers!

My sister Jaelayne (Johnny) opened a barbershop and beauty salon in Bashaw. She calls it "The Parlour" and I must say that she's done a nice job with it.

Now, her old man is pretty slick with tools, so he built a bunch of the furniture for her shop (which we'll showcase here over the next little while). I'd never hear the end of it if he did all the work so I figured I better contribute too. A couple hammer blows to some hot steel and a few wood chips later and voila'-a product shelf.

Obviously I've never seen every product shelf in the whole world, BUT I still feel comfortable saying that this is the only one in the world like it. For now.

Ah well, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

A while back some trendy friends of our came to us and asked "Think you guys can build a bed like ye?" (The pic on the end, that one's not ours)

"You bet" we reply. "However, we're gonna make a few changes. Make it look a little more Johnny Cash and a little less Luke Bryan, feel me?

In my opinion, the headboard has to be the feature. Often times the footboard is the first thing you see because it's fully exposed, leaving the headboard looking a little anemic because it's half covered. To counteract that effect, we use larger material on the headboard and set the posts more to the outside of the frame. Something about seeing that post run all the way to the floor gives it a grand stance and a more unified look.

Thanks for having faith in us Mitchell & Tasha, it was a pleasure!

"Waitaminute... That's not a log bed!...

HEY! We f*$&ed up this log bed!! start over??"

"Nah, no time. Send it like that, we'll apologize later."

And that's how we got into timber frames.

Mr. T said- "A wise man speaks because he has something to say, a fool speaks because he has to say something"

I've been trying to adopt that mantra, which has been tricky because by nature I have a big mouth.

That's why lately, we've been striving to build stuff that speaks for itself. I can sit here and tell you that these end tables were expertly crafted by Seb using various joinery methods and finished with that same two-tone technique that we saw earlier on the "Myer" farm sign. It wouldn't matter though, because you're going to know right quick if you like them or not based on the picture.

Thanks Mr. T!

Well now, we have some new blood in the shop in my cousin Sebastian, and I gotta say- he's a game changer!

He put together this sign for some new friends of ours out in the Maidstone area, He used some of his signature two-tone finishing techniques to really bring out the richness of the wood grain. Thanks to the Myers for giving us a shot at this cool little project!

Well Helloooooooo 2015!

That was a lovely break, who says there's no rest for the wicked?

Before we get into some new stuff that we're kicking out, I wanna go back and touch on this table that we sent to our friend Barb out in Saskatchewan.

What I really love about this is the contrast. The room is full of nice, soft earth tones and lots of times people go with more of the same on their furniture.

Instead she fills the room with a really dark set, giving the space balance and also really featuring the piece. Well done indeed!

If you have a cool set you'd like to share feel free to post below!

I'm hoping just to live to 40 years, let alone live with somebody for 40 years!

This was a way cool project to celebrate a 40th wedding anniversary. These kind of things are my favourite because we had free reign to let our inner timber ninja run wild. So we went with a two tone colour scheme (espresso on the posts, provincial on everything else). We incorporated the horseshoes for good luck, even though I'm not sure luck has anything to do with a milestone like that. And then we branded "Victor" "40" and "Lidy" into the backrest. Here's to the next 40 you two, and hopefully this bench will be around to see that one too!
