It’s been a busy few weeks. I was privileged to give a talk and gel printing demonstration to the Markham Artists Group. A great turnout with lots of good questions and interest in gel printing. A special treat was seeing , a friend from my Toronto days. Over the weekend, I was one of 5 artists presenting different printmaking techniques to the Burlington Fine Arts Association. Another fun, well received demonstration. Yesterday was about playing with gelli prints in my studio - I layered acrylic inks for grunge effects and drew on my plates with Sharpies. You can see the results of all these events below. This is your invitation to come to my studio May 19 for a workshop with gel plates. Spend an afternoon with me for fun and creative rewards. I am delighted to be part of the Dundas Valley School of Art Auction .ca this year. It’s my first year participating in their annual auction. I’m so excited I have 5 bids on my “Lyrical Tulip Tree Leaf” print and the bids are open through tomorrow. Last night was the live auction but you can still bid for the online auction and see the art at DVSA. So much beautiful art for a really good cause.

In my workshops, I’m often asked about layering paint on a gelli plate. I took a past its prime tulip and printed it in black. After that layer dried, I used a paint brush to add the petal and leaf colours. The first image is the plate waiting for the final layer. The next layer was added with a brayer then the paper. Wait, wait, wait for that to dry then I pulled the print - “Black Tulip”, 8” x 10” on mixed media paper.

Long ago I lived in California with a studio to work metal where I made this copper fish. He has accompanied me on my travels and today I decided to print him. Printing Fridays are my favourite. I have to straighten some of the metal then I’ll print him again. Here are the first print and a ghost print. I etched in scales that aren’t showing but I’ll find a way to print them. The cold outdoors didn’t diminish the indoors warmth of getting together to create with gelli plates. I was delighted to be asked to do a refresher workshop by someone who took my gelli printing class in 2023. We even gained a new printmaker. Thanks to .art for hosting us in her studio.
