Some market weekends leave you with more than sales — they leave you with inspiration. ✨

One of the most beautiful parts of being a maker is meeting other artists whose work feels instantly aligned with your own. At a recent market, I met a talented driftwood artist, Chelsey Mah of .and.wonder, and we soon after decided we needed to collaborate on a piece or two! The moment we placed a few Rocklight agate oil lamps alongside her raw driftwood pieces, it felt like they were always meant to be together.

The raw textures of the weathered wood and the natural beauty of the agate created something neither of us could have imagined on our own. A completely serendipitous collaboration born from creativity, conversation, and a shared love of nature’s artistry.

These are the moments that make markets so special — not just selling handmade work, but finding community and discovering how beautifully different crafts can come together. 🤍

Here are a few preliminary photos…stay tuned for progress updates as Chelsey works her magic!

Hi, I’m Laura — the co-founder and maker behind Rocklight Studios.

Together with my husband, Kyle, we create handcrafted rock and agate oil lamps, along with small-batch, clean burning candles designed to bring warmth, calm, and beauty into everyday spaces. Every piece is thoughtfully made by hand using natural materials, sustainable ingredients, and a deep love for craftsmanship.

What started as a creative outlet quickly became a passion for creating meaningful pieces that feel both grounding and luxurious. I’m inspired by nature, cozy spaces, slow living, and the simple ritual of lighting a flame at the end of the day.

Thank you for being here and supporting handmade, locally created work. It truly means the world to us! 🤍

One thing I’ve been thinking about lately:

Why do so many “locally owned” shops not actually carry locally made products? We’re constantly encouraged to “shop local”, and consumers genuinely want to support their communities. But so many times when I’ve walked into a local boutique or gift shop recently, or followed a “locally owned” shop online, the shelves (and feed) are filled with products mass-produced overseas or “Made in the USA” instead of items created by local makers and artisans.

It creates a strange contradiction -
consumers believe they’re supporting the local economy simply by shopping at a locally owned store, while local makers in the same community still struggle to find shelf space.

This isn’t about blaming small businesses. Running a retail shop is hard, margins are tight, and sourcing locally can be more expensive and time-consuming. But it’s worth asking:
What does “shop local” really mean?

Is it supporting a local storefront?
Supporting local jobs?
Supporting local artists and makers?
Or ideally… all of the above?

Because when locally made products are given space to exist alongside big or international brands, the impact multiplies. More money stays in the community. More small businesses survive. More unique, meaningful products are discovered.

Consumers are actively looking for authenticity right now. They want to know who made their candle, pottery, skincare, art, or textiles. They want connection — not just convenience. Maybe the future of “shopping local” is being more intentional about supporting both local retailers AND local makers together. I’d love to hear your comments on this! 🤍

P.s. this topic makes me even more grateful that shops like .a.shop and so many other wonderful shops that truly practice what they preach exist! 🙏

Golden Hour is all about a soft flicker, warm sunlight, and a moment to slow down. Notes of lemon, bergamot, jasmine, vanilla, and honey create a scent that feels like golden light spilling through the trees after a summer rain.

Hand-poured to bring a little luxury to your everyday rituals. 🤍🕯️
